Which name do you prefer for a girl?

Hi,

We are currently struggling to agree on a name for our baby girl who is due in 9 weeks.

We know we want a rare name as our son already has this and do seem to prefer 2 syllable names.

Between both our lists these are the names we have so far:

Marcie
Orla
Minnie
Nelly

Be great to get your opinions on these or also your ideas too as the only one we currently kind of agree on is Marcie.

Thanks!

Marcie or Orla for me. Really don’t like the other 2.

Flymetothestars · 06/09/2020 17:13

Marcie is lovely. How about Marnie

RowboatsinDisguise · 06/09/2020 17:14

I like Orla or Nelly. Have you considered Nella? I love that.

popcorndiva · 06/09/2020 17:16

Orla

Others are not great. Nelly will get 'Nelly the elephant' throughout her life

krj2608 · 06/09/2020 17:20

Orla it's beautiful x

SeanCailleach · 06/09/2020 17:21

Nelly is lovely and people will make fun of absolutely anything.

But those aren't rare op, they're very trendy.

M0mmyneedswine · 06/09/2020 17:27

The only 1 i like is marcie

Brighterthansunflowers · 06/09/2020 17:32

Minnie and Nelly don’t feel like complete names, especially Minnie. Minnie is overly twee and makes me think Mouse and also a twee name for female private parts. I can’t imagine a Minnie as any age except very young child.

I like Marcie and Orla, they feel like real names that will be suitable for a baby, child, teenager and adult.

BingoGo · 06/09/2020 17:37

Not keen on any of them sorry.

What about
Sally
Wilma
Lexa
Talia

Odile13 · 06/09/2020 17:40

I like Marcie and Orla. Marcie is my favourite. I’m not keen on the others.

badg3r · 06/09/2020 17:40

What about Marcella or Marsilea, nn marcie?

mamaoffourdc · 06/09/2020 17:43

I like Nella too

Spidey66 · 06/09/2020 17:45

I like Orla best.

My friends 18 year old is called Nelly. (After nelly Furtado. She said she’s never heard any elephant reference strangely.

Chocolatecake12 · 06/09/2020 17:47

Out of your list I prefer Marcie
Or how about Missy?

Oneandabean · 06/09/2020 18:27

I like Orla, we had it as an option until my dyslexic brother read it as Oral 🙈 it’s not that rare though, there’s a lot of them popping up everywhere.
Not a fan of the others. I do like Nell rather than Nelly though.

seriousandloyal · 06/09/2020 18:38

Orla

chubbyhotchoc · 06/09/2020 19:18

Marcie or Orla. Not keen on the others. Definitely not Nelly.
What about Della?

CorvusPurpureus · 06/09/2020 19:48

Apart from Orla, they're all diminutives.

DramaAlpaca · 06/09/2020 19:51

Orla is very nice. Marcie is OK but doesn't sound complete.

I very much dislike Minnie and Nelly, and as a pp says they are both diminutives.

CorvusPurpureus · 06/09/2020 19:53

Sorry hit post too soon!

I'd have loved a Minnie short for Minerva, but I do think it's better to have a full 'formal' name. Just in case she becomes PM or whatever. It's an old fashioned view I know, & all 3 of my dc go by their nicknames/diminutives in every day life, but they all have suitably formal full names.

So eg Nelly is cute, but I'd put Eleanor on her birth certificate.

MikeUniformMike · 06/09/2020 20:10

Marcie - different, a bit harsh sounding
Orla - a bit bland
Minnie - like it
Nelly - the elephant

Maisie?

Mommabear20 · 06/09/2020 20:12

Orla is lovely 😊

StrumpersPlunkett · 06/09/2020 20:15

not Minnie or Nelly - use those for nick names but not on birth certificate

reginafalange2020 · 06/09/2020 20:17

Orla.

I'd definitely avoid Minnie

Cyclewidow46 · 06/09/2020 20:21

Orla definitely.
Not too keen on the others I'm afraid.
