Which name do you prefer for a girl?

Hi,

We are currently struggling to agree on a name for our baby girl who is due in 9 weeks.

We know we want a rare name as our son already has this and do seem to prefer 2 syllable names.

Between both our lists these are the names we have so far:

Marcie
Orla
Minnie
Nelly

Be great to get your opinions on these or also your ideas too as the only one we currently kind of agree on is Marcie.

Thanks!

Orla is in a different league and is the only one I’d consider

Marcie - I find it too harsh sounding and twee. Marissa is nice though. And you could have Marcie as a nickname if you had to.

Minnie - Mouse. Twee.

Nelly - the elephant. Also Twee. Nella is much nicer.

I don’t think any of them are rare. I heard a Dulcie and Oriel (SP?) today, I would consider them quite rare.
I do like names beginning with O tho

unmarkedbythat · 06/09/2020 20:27

Orla. It's a lovely name.

SacreBleeurgh · 06/09/2020 20:31

Orla is the only one I’d even remotely consider out of that list. Agree with PP - it’s in a different league.

The other three are twee and cutesy - fine for a young child, a burden for an adult.

Orphlids · 06/09/2020 20:32

Orla is top 100, so certainly not rare. I’m not keen on Nelly, it sounds so unsophisticated to my ears. I guess it’s simply so closely associated with the elephant. If she turns out to be built like an elephant, it will be awful for her having to introduce herself. I find Minnie similarly unsophisticated, but not to the same extent. Marcie is my favourite. What about Mimi?

mydogmike · 06/09/2020 20:32

I like Orla , but Orla is very popular at the moment , I know 4 Orlas that have been born since lockdown x

DollyPartons · 06/09/2020 20:34

Orla, it's simple but beautiful!

winterchills · 06/09/2020 20:35

Love them al!!

BIRDSbirds · 06/09/2020 20:57

Orla is lovely.
Marcie is fine.

Nelly - will probably get nelly the elephant all the time, this will be really unpleasant as a teenager conscious about her looks.
Minnie - did you know this is slang for vagina? Plus minnie mouse. I'd avoid this.

crabette · 06/09/2020 21:10

As pp's have said, I like Orla and Marcie best.

I think Marcie is lovely as a name on its own, and would disagree it needs a 'full' name - but, I do know a beautiful baby Marcia which I thought was super cute, if that's a consideration for you.

TokenGinger · 06/09/2020 21:28

Orla is lovely but just as I was typing that, I had to change it 3 times from autocorrecting to oral!

Marcie is my second favourite.

juicylemon · 06/09/2020 21:37

Kitty
Nina
Lola

MondeoFan · 06/09/2020 21:39

Minnie or Orla.
I don't like Nelly as there are lots around here because of Billie from Towie daughter and I've never heard of Marcie only Macie or Marcella.

TJ17 · 06/09/2020 22:03

I love Marcie!

Orla really pretty but very popular.

Not keen on Nelly and Minnie can be a nickname for vagina. Also think there could be far too many Nelly the elephant/Minnie Mouse jokes growing up!

Firebird83 · 06/09/2020 22:30

Marcie is awful. Rhymes with arsey.

Orla is my favourite.

LarkDescending · 06/09/2020 22:35

Orla is my favourite. How about Polly?

Thanks everyone so far for your thoughts and suggestions!

Definitely Orla

TillyTheTiger · 07/09/2020 07:45

Orla is nice, Marcie is fine although I prefer Marnie.

Sunshine1235 · 07/09/2020 07:51

Orla is very popular and one of those names everyone is naming their child thinking it’s unusual but it’s not.

IslandLulu · 07/09/2020 07:51

Not Nelly.

Orla is the best from your list.

Which name do you prefer for a girl?
ifiwasascent · 07/09/2020 08:09

Orla
Minnie
Nelly
Marcie

What about Nancy?

Jnl90 · 07/09/2020 17:42

Thank you for the suggestions so far. Seems Orla and Marcie are winning so far. Ive never heard of a Marcie though which is good in our eyes. I do like Orla but like a few of you have said, its becoming quite a common name.

Marcie although I prefer it spelt as Marcy. It was on my shortlist at one point but we'd have used it as a diminutive for Marcella

Viletta · 07/09/2020 18:15

Marcie and Nelly are beautiful names
