Some older names I don't think will be returning:

Ethel
Enid
Sheila
Carol

Archibald
Gary
Brian
Reginald

Any to add?

I've got a Douglas. It's interesting that if you introduce him as Dougie, it gets a good response, but if you introduce him as Douglas, it really doesn't

ginginchinchin · 26/07/2020 23:25

I'm a 60 year old Sharon. When my kids were young we thought we'd never see old people's names becoming popular (Maisie, violet, Wilf, Rose etc). Every name comes back into fashion at some point (except Dick and Fanny)Grin

I think they would have to do some serious PR work to get Karen back as well.

saywhatwhatnow · 26/07/2020 23:31

Aren't most names on a cycle, they will all come back around eventually!?

Maybe not Karen, or Fanny, but most others!

I know a Douglas, Eric, Ernest, Reginald, Archibald, Ethel, David, Bob, Leonard, Paul, Nora, Ronald all under 4

I know a young Brian. He's named after his dad.

I know a baby Ethel! Born last year.

I think Gareth and Barry are going to disappear, but I can see Colin making a comeback, along with Nigel.

talkingkrustydoll · 26/07/2020 23:40

I know some Enid's and Ethels.

This is going to be outing but my sons called Raymond on his birth certificate but known as ray.

StillMedusa · 26/07/2020 23:40

Our school nursery is full of Archies, Alberts/Albies, I've also taught a Nora, a shed load of Ava-Graces...names that were laughable when I had my own children 23-28 years ago...names just go in cycles.

My own great Grandmother was born in 1886 and hated her own name.. Alice Emma... because she thought it was so old fashioned!!! No one would blink at that now! She said she always wanted to be a Maud or an Ethel....

I'm just grateful I wasn't named Barbara like my Gran and my Mum. Mine's dated too (Julie) but I'm known as Jules anyway....

Popjam · 26/07/2020 23:41

I used to think Annie, Daisy, Alfie, Charlie etc were so old fashioned...maybe because the people I knew called those names were in their 90's.

Now the people I know called those names are all under 10.

So I think they will all come back into fashion again, with a few exceptions.

Sootybear · 26/07/2020 23:42

I know a baby Terence.
I can't imagine a baby Pauline though.

SeraphinaDombegh · 26/07/2020 23:42

I love/hate these threads because I can always play "MyName bingo". It usually comes up within the first twenty posts. Never surprised to see it. And I'm pretty secure, I actually quite like my name. But it's a bit predictable and depressing to see people repeatedly shitting all over it as if there won't be people with that name reading and inwardly sighing yet again.

drspouse · 26/07/2020 23:44

I know a Eugene, a Timmy (but it's short for a non-English name), a Nora, a Douglas, and I'm only on page 2!

reminds me of Derek Akorah on one of those cheesy ghost hunting shows where he said in a strangled voice ''Mary loves Dick! .....Mary loves Dick!!!''
