Welsh girl names - Help

We are really struggling with girl names.
It needs to be Welsh but work in Welsh speaking Wales and English speaking Wales and can't have a LL in it.

We have tended to like 'dated' names over current popular ones.

Megan, Bethan, Rhian, Carys etc are all nice but too run of mill.
Siân and Sioned also can't be used and nothing that begins with a T

I've always loved the name Bronwen but have no Welsh connections and it wouldn't have gone with my surname.

I love Ceridwen too.

I believe Celyn can be used for girls but I’m sure I’ll shortly be corrected if not.

@GoshHashana

There is ALWAYS someone snippy on the Welsh threads saying certain names aren't Welsh and being generally arsey! Always.
Yeah, it's Mike so far and not me, but on the other hand why suggest names that are not at all Welsh in an answer to a request for a Welsh name. Imogen was a particularly strange suggestion, as Mike pointed out.

If someone asked for French names and posters suggested Japanese and Greek ones, the poster who points out that's wrong wouldn't be seen as 'arsey' I don't think.

"Also I see Iona mentioned a lot here, it is Scottish."

There is also a Welsh name Iona. Not pronounced like the place (island?) in Scotland. Comes from the Welsh word for January.

"I believe Celyn can be used for girls but I’m sure I’ll shortly be corrected if not."

Yes, I've seen it used for girls, but to me it 'sounds' like a boy's name because of -yn ending.

@Cherry321

Is Anna Welsh? Thought it was Polish?

Love Ffion, Anwen, Elin, Dilys, Eira, Betsi

Anne/Anna was the mother of Mary in the Bible so you will find it in many Christian countries.

Gwenhwyfar · 14/07/2020 21:47

You could name her after the time she was born, some months and some weather are names e.g. Mai if born in May and Mai is a common middle name, awel for breeze, eira for snow, enfys for rainbow.
You could choose a historical name such as Gwenllian, daughter of Llywelyn or you could choose a mythological name e.g. Rhiannon from the Mabinogi. Some place names also work, though some are gendered e.g. Gwynedd and Berwyn would be boys, but Clwyd could be a girl's middle name.
