Hi,
Basically I think I’ve decided on a name, Lottie. My only problem is that people have commented that it’s a nickname and not a ‘real name’ Ive come across the spelling Lotte which I feel looks fore like a ‘whole’ name, but my bf says it is pronounced differently. What do you think? How would you pronounce Lotte?

Hattie I would see as nickname for Harriet.I would pronounce Lotte as Lotter

Lotter Shock

Why would you add an R?

Pippilangstrumpfi · 03/06/2020 17:33

Lotte is definitely not pronounced Lotter! Nor is it pronounced Lotta.

It's pronounced as it's written Lott-e. The emphasis is on the first syllable and the e is very short.

Hattie is much nicer. I would use Harriet on the birth cert.

Ottie is a terrible nickname for a girl. It's one letter short of Hottie. Please rethink.

Ottie is rather ugly...Plus Ottie the otter, Ottie the snotty, etc etc.

If you go for Ottilie then the nickname should surely be Tilly.

PissOffStayAtHomeDogMum · 03/06/2020 21:46

Ottilie (correctly pronounced Ott-EE-lee-ah, not all this Otterly rubbish) was the most common name for girls registered in the Daily Telegraph's birth announcements in 2019. Make of that what you will, OP.

As Math says, I think (H)ottie as a nickname might be inadvisable.

Hattie and Lott(i)e are both nice.

Lotte is my cousin it's a pretty standard name in Denmark. I would agree with Lott-eh pronunciation though some would say how I say it would be their phonetic Lott-uh

It's a ok name I think it would be hard to live with in the UK and would likely for for Carlotta as suggested already. I do t like Hattie it reminds me of a hat and who wants to be called that
