Hi,

I’m expecting a boy in a few weeks time. DH and I are currently stick between Tudor and Thatcher for our second child.

I prefer Thatcher but I’m worried it would remind people of Margret Thatcher.

Our first child is called Plum so we definitely like names “out there”.

Thanks for any help.

How has no one suggested Balonz yet?

Roselilly36 · 01/05/2020 19:52

I like the name Tudor

Cosyblanky · 01/05/2020 19:54

How about Sugar or Pie to go with Plum? If you really like Thatcher what about Tori?

littlemeitslyn · 01/05/2020 21:00

Am sorry for Plum 😩

I've been hounded off threads for less than some of the posts on here (mainly due to my post not being read properly).
Given that I know several Tudors, and Tudurs, I find some of the comments offensive.

Ridiculing the name Plum is mean and nasty. I think it is nice and I'm not the only one, so please back off.

If people have never heard the name Tudor before, they are showing their ignorance, given the fact that it is the name of an era in British history.

Viviennemary · 01/05/2020 22:16

I have never heard of anybody called Tudor. Didn't realise it was a name you'd call a child. Still we learn something every day on MN. You shouldn't be hounded off threads. Why can't we disagree.

midwestsummer · 01/05/2020 22:18

I think this another example of some English people being unable to comprehend that there is more than one country in the UK and that different countries have different names.
It says more about their education levels than anything else.

ooooohbetty · 02/05/2020 07:53

People who want to give the children 'out there' names are only thinking of themselves and how 'out there' they will seem. They are never taking into consideration the poor child saddled with a name that other children will ridicule.

HolyWells · 02/05/2020 07:58

Plantagenet and Major much better choices.

Tudor Left

Tudor is a traditional welsh name for a lovely boy

Mumsnet name threads can be such displays of narrow minded wankerishness.

It sounds like someone with a cold saying ‘tuna’.

User1775564212 · 02/05/2020 13:53

Wait, is this thread is a joke? Confused

CoffeeBeansGalore · 02/05/2020 13:53

I knew a Tudor at school. Honestly one of the nicest lads you could meet. Lovely name.

timetest · 02/05/2020 13:56

I’ve never heard Tudor used as a first name. I rather like it. A big no to Thatcher.

HaveAtEm · 02/05/2020 13:58

I absolutely remember Tudor crisps 🤷‍♀️

You asked for opinions on the names, so you are going to get opinions on the names...

😱 (I really can't express my opinion kindly in words...this is me trying my best without being unkind, sorry OP but I think you are setting your son, and little Plum up for a lifetime of teasing 🤷‍♀️)
