Hi,

I’m expecting a boy in a few weeks time. DH and I are currently stick between Tudor and Thatcher for our second child.

I prefer Thatcher but I’m worried it would remind people of Margret Thatcher.

Our first child is called Plum so we definitely like names “out there”.

Thanks for any help.

I think plum is really pretty but Tudor and Thatcher are both seem very strange choices. Do you have any other options? it's your decision. Good luck.

crustycrab · 30/04/2020 14:37

OP as you'll see I thought you were talking about your boy. Hadn't read properly so sorry that!

Yoshinori · 30/04/2020 18:14

I can definitely see now how Plum and Tudor don’t sound like siblings. Thanks for all the comments. For now, we’ll go back to the drawing board and leave Tudor and especially Thatcher behind. 😊

Would you say Eros and Plum go together in some way ?

I'm Welsh and Tudor is a perfectly normal, nice name :)

SirVixofVixHall · 30/04/2020 18:20

She is Plum as in Victoria Plum.

Poodles03 · 30/04/2020 18:22

Oh, my fucking God.

Thatcher.

I don't know whether to die laughing or die from depression.

Tiredmum100 · 30/04/2020 18:26

I know of a few Tudors (I'm also in wales), so I don't think that name l is that 'out there' really.

idontevenknowanyonecalledblurb · 30/04/2020 18:26

Thatcher is from greys anatomy- I quite like it although it sounds very American as a name. My parents would be horrified by thatcher as a name in this country

StatementKnickers · 30/04/2020 18:38

Eros?

OK, this HAS to be a wind-up thread. I'm out.

Yoshinori · 30/04/2020 18:41

@StatementKnickers
I’ve already said that I like names that are a more out there. If you don’t like the name, that’s perfectly fine. There’s no need to be nasty.

You have to be Kidding?

87Callista · 30/04/2020 20:45

Easton
Mihai
Fletcher

Jins · 30/04/2020 21:00

Tudor was on our list until we tested it with some English friends. It proved to be unpronounceable

StatementKnickers · 01/05/2020 10:27

Have seen more than one Soho sex shop / massage parlour called Eros. I'm not sure why anyone would seriously think this is an appropriate name for a baby.

stophuggingme · 01/05/2020 12:00

Eros?

It’s a bit mundane
How about

Quack
Velvet
Tenacious
Preen
Chipotle
Zingy
Helsinki
Tango
Camelot
Bonkers
Terracotta
Undulate
Affliction

Just some random attention seeking shite I’ve tossed out there for you

MinorArcana · 01/05/2020 13:08

Eros????

Did you know that’s the Greek god of sexual attraction, and where the word erotic comes from?

I would 100% avoid that as a name for a baby. Those connotations would be hard for an adult to carry off, never mind a child.

Tudor and Thatcher are much better than Eros.

Umnoway · 01/05/2020 17:56

Henry?

StampMc · 01/05/2020 18:01

I thought crisps too. The tudors were not quite as crackers as the Plantagenets, so there’s that.

How do you pronounce it in welsh? Is it from Owen Tudor etc?

Iwalkinmyclothing · 01/05/2020 18:03

My uncle is called Tudor, I really like it.

Thatcher makes me think of Maggie and thus want to vomit.

For some reason I think Plum and Jasper sound like siblings, and then you'd still have a connection of sorts to Tudor.

Boireannachlaidir · 01/05/2020 18:09

What about Sugar with Tits as a middle name?

FTstepmum · 01/05/2020 18:10

Eros is the Greek god of sex. Where we get the word "erotic" from.

Though if you're already admittedly out there, then you might be cool with calling him that.

But he might feel the embarrassment when he discovers what it means...

AcrobaticCardigan · 01/05/2020 18:11

I don’t think there’s a person in the country that would hear Thatcher without thinking Margaret. Tudor - I just have visions of Henry VIII! Both names horrendous. Not even out there - just ridiculous.

Snufkins · 01/05/2020 18:16

Plum and Tudor/Eros, wow your poor kids 🤣

ooooohbetty · 01/05/2020 18:26

This is a joke. Canny bag of Tudor or Thatcher's Cider.
