LUCY!?

I rarely hear this name which surprises me because it's such a clean, beautiful and utterly timeless girls name!! Why don't more people use it?

We want a really pretty but classic name and Lucy/Lucie is at the top of my list (Annabelle, Elena and Anna close runners up)

What do you think of Lucy?

I know a couple of little Lucy's (under 8), not so keen on it when they are called 'Luce'

Hereforthenamethreads · 05/03/2020 23:37

I really like it!

Isthistrueor · 06/03/2020 12:44

I think it’s a harmless plain name really. It’s not special or exciting but it’s not an awful name either.

sibbys · 07/03/2020 18:47

I love Lucy. Go for it!

Martin1991 · 07/03/2020 18:52

I have 23 year old Lucy. It suited her as a little girl and also as a strong woman, beautiful inside and out. Although I'm biased of course. I still love the name.

Topseyt · 07/03/2020 18:58

I have a Lucy. She will be 18 later this year.

I love timeless and classic names.

Desperatelyseekingsummer · 07/03/2020 19:00

Beautiful name. Both spellings are equally valid: Lucie is Czech and French spelling, not some trendy alternative. A friend has a Swiss grandma called Lucie and I know a Czech Lucie.

ellenpartridge · 07/03/2020 21:51

Lovely classic name. I have a Lucy and it's always been my favourite name since I was a child.

MeOldBamboo · 07/03/2020 22:06

My DD is Lucy and she’s the only young one we know and the only one in the school. My favourite strong heroine from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and also The Amazing Mr Blunden. Both strong characters with integrity. A classic!

MissLLM · 07/03/2020 22:13

I'm 34 and a Lucy! Always loved my name. I live in London and whilst there are always a few Lucys around (I have one in my class who is 8) there aren't ever many so although I never feel unique, it's never confusing! Also lots of people of all ages have the name. We are a special and unique bunch!

Snog · 08/03/2020 12:45

Clean? How is it a clean name?!!!

Snog · 08/03/2020 12:47

And does that mean that some names are "dirty"???!!!!

jfoyo26 · 08/03/2020 12:52

Very popular here in the US, as is Claire

TheWordmeister · 08/03/2020 12:54

No, utterly mimsy and wet.

nosleepp · 08/03/2020 12:55

I’m really not a fan of Lucy, can’t put my finger on why. It just sounds whiney to me

theschoolonthehill · 08/03/2020 13:00

I went to school with a Lucy and really envied her name.

It became very popular around here around the same time as Molly, Millie, Daisy, Lily got popular so to my ears it is a very popularly used name and it tends to end up lumped together with the Holly, Molly, Millie, Lily names which is a shame as it is by far a much nicer name.

Poetryinaction · 09/03/2020 20:10

Lucy was on my list. But I'm glad I didn't use it as I agree it is a bit young sounding.

Howtotrainyourhamster · 09/03/2020 20:56

Inoffensive but quite dull. My dd is 10 and there have been quite a few Lucy’s around, at school, clubs etc. I also don’t think it works that well on an older person.

(I also had a an awful flatmate called Lucy who dragged out the Loo sound in a whinget sounding way at university, so this has probably coloured my view despite several nice Lucy’s since).

peanutbutterandbananas · 09/03/2020 21:01

I love Lucy!

Happiedays · 09/03/2020 21:14

I really like Lucy but every lucy I have ever known has been horrible... Its strange when you get pregnant and the amount of names you suddenly remember from childhood

Summersunandoranges · 09/03/2020 21:16

We have a Lucy here! I only actually know of one other Lucy and she is an adult.

I think understated and feminine.

Whatsyourflava · 09/03/2020 21:54

Have we helped you make a decision @Sorayray

I love Lucy

Butterfly84 · 09/03/2020 22:16

Very bleugh and plain IMO. Nothing about it. And actually quite ugly when I think about it, contrary to what pps think. Not my cup of tea at all.

StCharlotte · 09/03/2020 22:41

We had two Lucys in our family. I love the name. For the synaesthesia "sufferers" among us, it's a very bright gold name to me.

I have a Hannah too. I think the two names tend to go together.

And we have a Hannah Lucy Smile

glasgow357 · 09/03/2020 22:42

I know loads.
