LUCY!?

I rarely hear this name which surprises me because it's such a clean, beautiful and utterly timeless girls name!! Why don't more people use it?

We want a really pretty but classic name and Lucy/Lucie is at the top of my list (Annabelle, Elena and Anna close runners up)

What do you think of Lucy?

I like Lucy, and I also like Lucía, but I think you need to have a connection to a country like Spain for that to work.

finallychangedmyusername · 04/03/2020 18:18

Wonderful name. Non-fussy yet pretty and suits a baby/toddler/schoolgirl/woman. I also love Mary.

Babybel90 · 04/03/2020 18:18

I love it but it wouldn’t work with my surname or I would have definitely used it. (Agree that Lucie is awful though!)

SecretWitch · 04/03/2020 18:19

Lucy is a lovely name!

DramaAlpaca · 04/03/2020 18:21

I adore Lucy. Pretty, short, simple & timeless. I couldn't have used it if I'd had a girl because it would be weird with the surname.

RosehipRuthie · 04/03/2020 18:22

I think Lucy largely stopped being used soon after the turn of the millennium. I know quite a few but they're all 16+ now.

Namechangeforthis123 · 04/03/2020 18:58

I've been called Lucie for the last 40 years. Never been told what an awful name it is.. Only on mumsnet 🙄. I LOVE my name. It's perfectly recognised.

Omashu · 04/03/2020 19:07

I find it a bit meh... it’s okay though. I much prefer Lucia!

Doodlesquah1 · 04/03/2020 19:15

So dull

WingingItSince1973 · 04/03/2020 19:19

My 22 year old is a Lucy. Obviously I love it x

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 04/03/2020 19:22

Lovely name. Am using it in a few weeks when DD arrives 🥰

BlueMoon1103 · 04/03/2020 19:23

I only know one child Lucy and she is pre teen. I know a couple of Lucy’s my age (mid twenties) but that’s it! Pretty name and underused nowadays.

mnistooaddictive · 04/03/2020 19:25

I’m Lucy and I hate it. There’s a range of bins called Lucy and every farm park has a pig or sheep or goat called Lucy. It’s girly and just nothing special. As a teacher I can tell you that there’s still lots around.
Lots of lovelier names.

TeetotalKoala · 04/03/2020 19:29

One of my best friends is a Lucy. I have boys but both gave classic, timeless names. I agree that Lucy falls into that category. It suits every age.

SleepyRoo · 04/03/2020 19:32

Love it, and Lucinda

Notso · 04/03/2020 19:37

I don't like it. There's something about the Loo sound in names that I find off putting. Also every Lucy I've met has been called Luce as a nn which again I just don't like.

Lindy2 · 04/03/2020 19:38

I like Lucy/Lucie. It's pretty and timeless.

In my daughter's school year of 60 children there are 2 of them. I wouldn't say it's overly popular but there are still a good number of Lucy/Lucies to be found around here.

ThickSock · 04/03/2020 19:40

I really like it and it’s DGDs middle name.

Brassica · 04/03/2020 19:40

@Thisismytimetoshine @lovelyupnorth I still say ‘awful’ is an overstatement and that at most that’s your opinion, not an objective fact. I’d say the same about names I dislike. No name ‘IS’ awful.

Lucie I recall being the spelling of the little girl’s name in the story of Mrs Tiggywinkle, so that’d be an ?Edwardian era name and not some modern corruption.

olivehater · 04/03/2020 19:42

I think it’s a rather childlike name. Pretty on a young girl but doesn’t really work on a grown adult.

PepsiLola · 04/03/2020 19:55

My son Luke was going to be Lucy ❤️ it's a beautiful name.

AuntHilda · 04/03/2020 19:59

I know a lot of Lucy's. I work with one, I have a friend called Lucy and my best friends daughter is called Lucy. I agree it's a lovely name but not that uncommon round these parts.

Thedogshow · 04/03/2020 20:02

I think it’s such a nice, simple alternative to all the alternative names that everyone is using.

Onceuponatimethen · 04/03/2020 20:04

I know it’s classic, but personally it’s not my cup of tea.

I don’t like the Lu sound at the start (I also don’t like Luke for boys).

I find it a bit too girly and a bit young. I prefer take you anywhere names like Julia, Helena, Clara etc

iusedtohavechickens · 04/03/2020 20:05

My dd is called Lucie, she is 18 this year 🥰
