Would she be your only dc?
I knew a dm and a dsis who had 6 dc each. All had double barrelled names! My head hurt hearing them shouting on at the dc!

Spartonian · 19/02/2020 11:09

Harper-Halle with Willow as a middle name.

Bezalelle · 19/02/2020 11:10

Why do you need to tag a superfluous sound onto the end? -Mai, -May, -Rae endings sound so twee. Give her a good, strong standalone name.

Caitlin2020 · 19/02/2020 11:20

she Is my 6th 3rd daughter I only have one more with double who is Elle-mai I just like them or something really cute :)

My pet hate is using Mai but having it pronounced as May.. there’d not how you say it.,

Whynosnowyet · 19/02/2020 11:30

Surely it's just adding to remembering who is who?? I have many many dc and in a fluster they get called allsorts - even the ddog's name sometimes!
Willow on it's own is lovely. Was on my list but had a ds last!!

wendywoopywoo222 · 19/02/2020 11:34

How do you pronounce Mai if you don't say May 🤔🤔🤔.

Omashu · 19/02/2020 11:47

@wendywoopywoo222

Ai should make a sound like eye. As in the way you pronounce Kai. So Mai should be pronounced like ‘my’

Itwasntme1 · 19/02/2020 11:55

I’m afraid I’m not a fan of the double first name fad. I prefer a simple single name.

Harper on its own is lovely. With willow as a second name.

autumnkate · 19/02/2020 12:20

Every child I have taught drops the second part of their double barrelled name at secondary school so I honestly wouldn’t bother

Ricekrispie22 · 19/02/2020 12:22

Daisy-Grace

American. Tacky. Apologise for tautology.

wendywoopywoo222 · 19/02/2020 12:40

Omashu.

Ah ok. Thanks. Smile

sweetkitty · 19/02/2020 12:43

I’m the owner of a double barrelled name from the 70s and hate it.

Computer forms often don’t accept the hyphen so you get all weird and wonderful spellings.

TotesGodsWill · 19/02/2020 13:17

They’re not cute. And even if you think they are, you’re naming a person who will be a grown up for a lot longer than they’ll be a baby, cute shouldn’t be a big consideration!

emmathedilemma · 19/02/2020 13:24

I'm with @percheron67 on this one, double-barrelled first names make me cringe.

Caitlin2020 · 19/02/2020 13:31

I don’t think people should be so rude everyone has different preference and mai is said like may I just wanted to spell it different my choice!

OP posts:
Omashu · 19/02/2020 13:42

@Caitlin2020 I appreciate that you say Mai like May. Just want to clarify that I was just explaining to someone else that ai is usually supposed to be pronounced like eye. Lots of people spell it like you though so it doesn’t really matter. I hope you don’t think I was being rude!

pallisers · 19/02/2020 13:44

stereotypical mumsnet comment really.

allthedamnvampires · 19/02/2020 13:48

It is a fad and not a good one. These names will date and what strong woman (which I assume you want your DD to become) wants lumbered with an 'ickle cute' name? That's what nicknames are for.

Itwasntme1 · 19/02/2020 13:50

I am afraid I have to agree, Mai and May are different names with different pronunciations.

You (And then your daughter) would have to tell every single person that while you have spelt it as mai you actually want it to be pronounced as may.

Milkwith1sugar44 · 19/02/2020 14:28

No-one will pronounce Mai as My.
It's so common now that everyone will know it's pronounced May.

SoupDragon · 19/02/2020 14:31

Me too, although it doesn't bother me at all. I very rarely come across a computer form that won't accept it.

Itwasntme1 · 19/02/2020 14:41

Really? People now don’t know they are different names?

I am cleaRly out of touch. I feel sorry for the people called mai. It’s a beautiful name that has apparently been wiped out because people like To think they are being different by spelling may incorrectly!
