I was just thinking that I hope if you have Halle Willow that your surnames not Berry Grin

Caitlin2020 · 19/02/2020 22:49

I don’t think Harper is tacky at all

Harper is a nice name but I think the beckhams ruined it!

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 19/02/2020 22:54

Harper Halle looks like a place; Hallie, Halley or Hayley would be better if you are using it as the second half of a double barrelled name.

I changed mine to a double barrelled name as a teen and it's now only ever used on my certificates (including my wedding certificate). I don't use the second part day to day any more, it was originally my middle name but my family always called me by both names so I thought I may as well hyphenate it officially.

Caitlin2020 · 19/02/2020 23:04

Yes it’s so hard to choose names I’ve gone though lists of girls names maybe I should wait to see what she looks like x

Harper-Blu

They aren't 'double-barrelled' names, they are hyphenated.

Double-barrelled refers to surnames.

I don't mind the traditional hyphenated names with a French origin, but I think these made up modern versions with two oddly-spelled names seemingly chosen at random and attached together by a hyphen are, I'm sorry to say, very downmarket.

American. Tacky. Apologise for tautology.

Ouch.

I do agree that double barrelled girl names are becoming an underclass marker in the U.K., though.

JustForTheTasteOfIt · 20/02/2020 09:06

I'm not a massive fan of hyphenated names (that's just personal preference though!) but I think some of the following might be nice ones you like based on your others:

Willow
Autumn
Maisie
Betsy
Winter
Bella
Annie
Dusty

Whatsyourflava · 20/02/2020 09:35

I’m also not a fan of hyphenated names I’m afraid. I know this is a terrible thing to say but I get quite snobby about them and assume family is downmarket (sorry I know it’s me that’s the problem here but if you want to know what people think behind your back but don’t dare to say)

Anyway I think Harper is a beautiful choice @Caitlin2020 - a lovely name!

What I would say is that with both of mine I hoped that a name would materialise when I set eyes on them and it didn’t !! They just look like a baby and I wished I’d picked in advance. That’s just me though.

Here are some other girl names I like. As I like Harper too maybe we have similar taste:

Willa
Imogen
Sadie
Edith / Edie
Margaret /Maggie or Peggy
Clementine/ Clemmie
Roxanne/Roxanna/Rosanne
Pearl
Delilah
Ottilie (Ottie)
Cora
Eliza
River
Winter
Jemima
Holly
Cleo
Mabel

Sorry for all the the posts! Don’t know what happened there 🙈

JillAmanda · 20/02/2020 09:44

Chavtastic! 😁

december20100 · 20/02/2020 10:45

your daughter will hate you

Caitlin2020 · 20/02/2020 10:58

That’s a bit extreme my daughter will hate me! I think I’ll delete this thread only come for some name ideas

OP posts:
ArriettyJones · 20/02/2020 11:39

I just think you need to bear in mind that the current hyphenated name trend will end up being like “Sharon and Tracey”. That’s all posters are trying to warn you of, I think.

CaffiSaliMali · 20/02/2020 11:41

The only adult I know with a hyphenated name doesn't use it. Think Emily-Jane and she goes by Emily only. She found it difficult administratively - we lived together at Uni and she often got bills etc. addressed to Emily Hyphen Jane or Emily Dash Jane!

As Mike has said, Mai is Welsh for May and it's pronounced My.

Whatsyourflava · 20/02/2020 11:44

Your daughter absolutely won’t hate you @Caitlin2020

I don’t like hyphenated names but I’d never go that far. Please don’t let these comments upset you. People can be cruel but what possesses someone to say such a thing on a baby name forum

Hope the name suggestions have helped and sorry I posted the same post about 10 times 🙈

CaffiSaliMali · 20/02/2020 11:45

OP Harper has quite a modern unisex feel to me so I would pair that sort of name with something a bit more classic and feminine for balance e.g. Jane, Rose, Grace, Joy, Louise, Naomi etc.

Sux2buthen · 20/02/2020 11:50

Congratulations on your pregnancy Thanks
Please try and ignore the grumpy farts on here, they read the posts and get confused about the question sometimes. It's from being knackered after sucking people's joy away all day.

TheOrangeFox · 20/02/2020 11:54

I'm a double-barelled name holder from the 80's.not only is it a pain on forms but I've always only gone by the first part and have hated the whole thing together since I was about 5. Yet on all ID and anything official, that stupid name is there too.

Why is a strong first name not enough? The other as a middle name is just as good, surely?

Cute names are fine when they're little. Then they grow up to be grown women in which it doesn't suit them and is an absolute pain.
