People on here hate double barrelled names. I have one so the rude comments annoy me. And yes I always use my full name

Caitlin2020 · 19/02/2020 15:08

There is an area of Manchester called Harpurhey (once named the most deprived neighbourhood in England), so Harper Rae rings warning bells to me.

I like all your suggested first names, pretty and distinctive. I think they are great without a hyphenated addition on the whole, but some suggestions:

Willow-Rose (v popular middle name but sound pretty together)
Halle-Sue
Harper-Jo

Jane, Anne, Beth, Lou are all other options for the second part.

Poorolddaddypig · 19/02/2020 15:52

I don’t think you can have Elle-May and something-Rae OP. It’s really too much and a bit naff (sorry). Can’t uou just choose one of your first names and with no -Rae stuck on the end?!

BoomBoomBoomLetMeHearYouSay · 19/02/2020 15:55

What about -Belle or -Rose for the second part

Harper-Belle?

Harper-Rose

Namechange8471 · 19/02/2020 15:57

Harper lee/leigh

Nowayorhighway · 19/02/2020 16:22

My Mum double barrelled my name in the 90s. It wasn’t cool then and it definitely isn’t now, I hate it personally and have never ever used the hyphen. My ‘middle name’ is similar to Mae/Rae to make things worse, I resent it greatly.

allthedamnvampires · 19/02/2020 16:33

@Namechange8471 OP and her DD will get many questions on race relations and the sequel.

giftponderings · 19/02/2020 17:59

I know of an Ella-Jayne

It's shit having a double-barrelled name.
Airlines have real bother with it.
Passport office doesn't like it. I had one with the hyphen and one without and nobody noticed, it was no fun getting a learner driving licence etc with that. Hmm
I haven't got a middle name, but people think I do have one. I feel like I've missed out!
Nothing is ever addressed to me properly.
People mis-spell both parts.
I hated it, it meant I was so different at school and people took the absolute piss until I left school and decided to be called just by the first bit which made my Mum sad.
I was going to legally change my name to just the first part, but my Mum was quite upset by it.
Think carefully before saddling your child with this.

SoupDragon · 19/02/2020 19:04

Passport office doesn't like it.

Oddly, I've never had a problem with my passport. I think the only time I've had an issue with it is the online payment system for DD's school uniform shop.

That said, Tesco Clubcard think I am in a civil partnership with myself as Mrs A-B Dragon and Mrs B Dragon but I think that mistake crept in for other reasons 😂

Mai is a welsh name and is pronounced My.
-Mae, -Rae names are not to my taste.
Harper-Halle is a bit of a tongue twister and makes me think of Harper Adams.

MikeUniformMike · 19/02/2020 20:36

Harper-Ray makes me think of someone trying to stick a harpoon into a stringray.

How about Density-Rae?

StCharlotte · 19/02/2020 20:41

Mai is a welsh name and is pronounced My.

The only Mai (pronounced My) I know is Vietnamese.

NoSauce · 19/02/2020 20:44

I hate double barrelled names.

The only one I would entertain is Mary Jane ( and yes I know what it’s slang for )

HopeClearwater · 19/02/2020 20:48

Mai Tai - cocktail pronounced My Tie

As for double-barrelled forenames, spare a thought for their teachers, won’t you? Such a mouthful along with the other 29 names you need to be able to say off the top of your head in the classroom...

I have a double barrelled name. Absolutely hate it. As soon as I became a teenage I only answered to my nickname 30 years later still only answer to my nickname. Double barrelled names are flouncy and overly girly. Don’t do it.

EllaWallace · 19/02/2020 21:12

There are some lovely names that almost sound double barrelled without being so, like Annaliese, Annabelle, Annmarie... admittedly these all begin with Ann but perhaps there are others!

StormDenise · 19/02/2020 21:24

I'm not a fan of hyphenated names either but I like these which I think sound like 2 names:

Luella
Annaliese
Lorelei
Coralie

hannahfaith · 19/02/2020 22:08

Out of curiosity what is your other daughters name; the one who isn't double barreled?
While I don't like double barreled names it's your child.
I think Willa-Rae is cute and you mentioned you liked Willow

hannahfaith · 19/02/2020 22:12

I went to high school with a Sarah Beth and a Ema Kate and both of them seemed to like their names double barreled even though Kate and Beth were used as middle names. Is that a possibility?

Name her Willow Rae not hypened but you could call her Willow-Rae

user1493494961 · 19/02/2020 22:47

Harper and Halle are tacky enough without adding a hyphen into the mix.
