Hello! I’m trying to think of a baby girls name which I’m really struggling with - boys are so much easier! Have shortlisted the following and was hoping for some views:

Laura
Sophie
Imogen
Martha
Isobel
Adeline

Any thoughts? We’re looking for something feminine but not too frilly or trendy. I love Isobel but worry it’s a bit popular at the moment. Thank you!

Laura and adeline are least trendy atm.

Isobel and variants (isabelle, Isabella)
Sophie and variants (sophia)
Both very popular

Martha and imogen in the middle.

I like the least popular 4 with Adeline m favourite

ShanghaiDiva · 16/01/2020 06:23

Isobel and Imogen are my favourites from your list - both fabulous names.

MondeoFan · 16/01/2020 06:25

Isobel is the best

Coughy4u · 16/01/2020 06:25

My favs are Laura and Sophie. Very elegant names.

BelfastNonBlonde · 16/01/2020 06:27

All beautiful, classic and elegant!👌
A great list.

I would probably relegate Adeline to middle name as it flows nicely as that.

sawyersfishbiscuits · 16/01/2020 06:51

I like Martha the best.

FairytaleofBykerGrove · 16/01/2020 06:52

Adeline and Martha. ❤️

FairytaleofBykerGrove · 16/01/2020 06:53

Actually Imogen is lovely too. Laura Sophie and Isobel are very dull compared to the others.

CatteStreet · 16/01/2020 06:58

Laura's due a revival. Lovely name, best of your list.

I actually think Sophie is the perfect name, but so do far too many others.

Martha is lovely but doesn't travel well (not keen on the 'Marta' pronunciation it would get outside English-speaking countries).

Don't like Imogen or Adeline much (esp not pronounced Ade-lyne). Isobel's quite sweet but again very popular.

Marinetta · 16/01/2020 07:00

Have you consided Adelina as an alternative to Adeline? I had a colleague called Adelina and loved the name, definitely would have used it if I'd had a girl.

RonMexico · 16/01/2020 07:10

Laura or Martha

Astronica · 16/01/2020 07:14

Laura - I love this.
Sophie - sweet and always appealing - popular though
Imogen - equal favourite with Laura, strong and feminine
Martha - less popular than the others which could be an advantage, but I'm not keen on it
Isobel - good name but very popular
Adeline - doesn't appeal to me at all, whereas I love Adelaide

other ideas of feminine but not frilly:
Bridget
Adelaide
Romilly
Violet
Ingrid
Astrid
Jemima
Cressida
Tabitha
Alexis
Frances
Margaux
Antonia

Batqueen · 16/01/2020 07:16

Sophie is classic and less of a trend than Sophia

MopsRUs · 16/01/2020 08:02

Laura and Martha - tired sounding
Sophie - lovely. Sophia even better
Isobel - popular but very nice
Imogen - OK
Adeline - don't like

emmathedilemma · 16/01/2020 08:16

I love Martha!

il0vew1ne · 16/01/2020 08:22

Isobel that's such a lovely name

Beautyoftheirdreams · 16/01/2020 08:54

I have an Isobel. I love her name. I rarely see that spelling variant. It is fairly popular but she's the only Isobel (or variant) in her class

BlouseAndSkirt · 16/01/2020 09:41

Martha!

Isobel: lovely but I know 100s of currently teens with variations of the name.

Imogen: lovely, bit dated

Adeline: not keen. Bedknobs and Broomsticks.

MikeUniformMike · 16/01/2020 10:59

Laura - lovely, classic and not overused right now
Sophie - lovely, classic and not overused right now
Imogen - ok, I don't like Immy
Martha - ok
Isobel - ok but I don't like Issy. Lots of Isabels, Isabelles and Isabellas around. Will get misspelt.
Adeline - dreadful

Batqueen · 16/01/2020 11:01

Bedknobs and Broomsticks is Eglantine

inwood · 16/01/2020 11:02

I like all of them! That doesn't really help you. My daughters have two of the names on your list.

Caramel78 · 16/01/2020 11:06

Sophie

Waterchestnut · 16/01/2020 11:07

I like Laura and Martha.

Isobel and Sophie are full and overused.

Imogen and Adeline are ok.

Urkiddingright · 16/01/2020 11:26

Martha or Sophie for me.

Laura is stuck in the 1990s.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 16/01/2020 11:31

I love Laura - beautiful name.
Dislike Sophie and Martha.
