Hello! I’m trying to think of a baby girls name which I’m really struggling with - boys are so much easier! Have shortlisted the following and was hoping for some views:

Laura
Sophie
Imogen
Martha
Isobel
Adeline

Any thoughts? We’re looking for something feminine but not too frilly or trendy. I love Isobel but worry it’s a bit popular at the moment. Thank you!

I love Imogen, Martha and Adeline
Sophie - fine, but dull.
Laura - again bit dull.
Isobel - beautiful, but quite popular.

HopScotchHop · 16/01/2020 11:51

Sophie and Isobel are beautiful, classic names.

Booobarella · 16/01/2020 12:04

I love Imogen.

Booobarella · 16/01/2020 12:05

What about melody?

Whatsyourflava · 16/01/2020 12:16

Love Imogen ❤️

FlashyOctopus · 16/01/2020 12:32

I love Imogen and Adeline, have you thought about Isolde?

Bluntness100 · 16/01/2020 12:37

Laura for me too, classy and understated. It's a lovely name.

midsomermurderess · 16/01/2020 13:42

Martha. It's quite fab.

robin04031402 · 16/01/2020 13:57

Laura - lovely classic name, can imagine a little girl and a woman
Sophie - very over used
Imogen - lovely but likely to have the nn Immy if you want her to have a nn
Martha - lovely, easy to spell, not too common
Isobel - i assume you'll pronounce it iso-bel rather than isa-belle - people are likely to get confused with this - people will think she's called Isabelle
Adeline - like this one, classic and timeless

roiseandjim · 16/01/2020 14:05

Imogen is my fave

Poorolddaddypig · 16/01/2020 14:06

I don’t like Laura at all - very dated and always seemed to be the name of boring people I met. Sophie is fine. I love Isobel, but it’s sooo popular. Adeline and Martha are my favorites, Imogen is nice too.

Mandarinfish · 16/01/2020 14:08

Sophie is my favourite - beautiful. They're all nice though!

Originalusernameunavailable · 16/01/2020 14:09

I love reading people’s opinions on these threads when it’s my own name that people are judging Grin

YourOpinionIsNoted · 16/01/2020 14:12

Adeline is beautiful, not sure why it's getting a bad time on here!

Imogen next best.

Sophie is bland.

Laura could be in its way back - it has a lovely soft sound. Not really a strong enough name for me though. Doesn't sound like someone with a lot of backbone.

Martha is cute.

ImportantWater · 16/01/2020 14:12

Laura is my favourite. I like Martha as well. Adeline my least favourite but I think that is partly because I don’t know how to pronounce it and partly because it reminds me of a cross between adenoids and Aveline from Bread. Imogen is pretty, Isobel is super popular or at least was 10 years ago.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 16/01/2020 16:57

Laura is due a come back.
Sophie is classic and will never date.
Martha's nice
I like Isabelle but not Isobel.
Don't like Imogen or Adeline

icannotremember · 16/01/2020 17:01

My name is on that list, plus two of my all time favourite girl's names, so OP, you are clearly an individual of great taste.

Are names like Clara, Lydia, Amy, Hannah your cup of tea?

Originalusernameunavailable · 16/01/2020 18:01

Can I just say this Laura has a backbone and gets herself into trouble a bit too much for using it.
If you want a strong willed, head strong daughter go for Laura.

I mean, be prepared to bail her out of jail multiple times but yeah...Grin

bluechameleon · 16/01/2020 18:38

I like all of them. My favourite is Isobel but I think I would be put off by the popularity of it and its variants. Martha is lovely, and I also like Adeline a lot - I prefer it pronounced "een". How about Emmeline?

Justonemoremojito · 16/01/2020 18:43

I'm a laura - i hope I'm not dull/boring etc Grin It's a very 80s/90s name though! I can't imagine a baby Laura, I do like Lauren, Lara & Cora though

DramaAlpaca · 16/01/2020 18:49

I like them all with the exception of Martha, which has to be one of the dreariest names ever (sorry to any Marthas here).

If I'd had girls instead of boys, I'd probably have called them Laura & Sophie.

JadziaSnax · 16/01/2020 18:54

Definitely Sophie.

unkindnessofravens · 16/01/2020 19:17

Adeline is beautiful, not so keen on the rest, especially Martha.

17caterpillars1mouse · 16/01/2020 19:28

I really like Laura and Adeline. I also love Isobel, it's dds middle name, too popular for me for a first name

finallychangedmyusername · 16/01/2020 19:45

You have a great list. Martha is currently enjoying a bit of a resurgence and Isobel is a bit frilly and definitely popular. Sophie is timeless but popular. Imogen is classic but also currently quite popular. Adeline is lovely and unusual. Laura is classic and lovely, and definitely not currently popular. To fit your brief I'd vote Adeline or Laura. Smile
