Hello! I’m trying to think of a baby girls name which I’m really struggling with - boys are so much easier! Have shortlisted the following and was hoping for some views:

Laura
Sophie
Imogen
Martha
Isobel
Adeline

Any thoughts? We’re looking for something feminine but not too frilly or trendy. I love Isobel but worry it’s a bit popular at the moment. Thank you!

Laura and Adeline are beautiful and not overdone. I'd pick Laura, I think it's lovely.

Isobel is a better spelling than Isabelle but will get lumped together and there are a million isabelles, it's so common and quite saccharine.

Sophie is fine but very common. Imogen is also pretty popular.

Martha always sounds a bit wet to me.

Hello, thanks so much for all your replies! To update:

  • Martha: Have definitely ruled out
  • Laura: husband has said he doesn’t like now (which is a shame as I think it’s lovely).
  • Imogen: really like still as classic and feminine but we think it may be a bit clunky and don’t love the nn’s that comes with it.
  • Sophie: my husbands favourite, pretty but not sure I can get excited about it

So I think on that basis we’re down to:
Isobel
Adeline (nn. elle)
