I love the name Alistair but can’t use it as it’s my nephew.

What I love about the name is that it’s a classic normal name but it has actually never been popular. I also love the nickname Ali.

From what I can see the name has never actually been in the Uk top 100 names (why not!! I can’t understand it) and the name is now close to number 500 in the name charts. Is there another equivalent name? All I can think of is Laurence. But I don’t like that as much. Anything else?

Names like Christopher aren’t the same as they were very popular in the 1980s

Aloysius?

TitianaTitsling · 03/10/2019 21:58

That's definitely I'm assuming not a top ten name!

xyzandabc · 03/10/2019 21:58

Alasdair?

SoMuchToBits · 03/10/2019 22:00

Douglas? It's Scottish, fairly classic but never over popular.

Rory/Ruairí/Ruaidhrí/Ruaidhrígh/Raidhrígh?

MissHenty · 03/10/2019 22:01

I’ve not heard of that name 🤣
So no probably not top 10

I’m not wanting anything whacky at all. Potentially even a “boring” name. A name that is a classic that you wouldn’t bat an eyelid about but that has always been fairly rare

Alistair, Laurence..... what else?

so you want something fairly classic but not common that people recognise and hopefully can spell

even John is now apparently really quite rare in young boys

Alasdair is Scottish Gaelic for Alexander, how about that? We nearly went for Roderick (Roddy).
