I love the name Alistair but can’t use it as it’s my nephew.

What I love about the name is that it’s a classic normal name but it has actually never been popular. I also love the nickname Ali.

From what I can see the name has never actually been in the Uk top 100 names (why not!! I can’t understand it) and the name is now close to number 500 in the name charts. Is there another equivalent name? All I can think of is Laurence. But I don’t like that as much. Anything else?

Names like Christopher aren’t the same as they were very popular in the 1980s

@MissHenty still TTC (spending far too much time on MN as a TWW distraction!) so unfortunately still hypothetical! But we’ve spent a fair amount of time on boys names when chatting as we are 100% the same on girls names but differ a lot on boys (hence why I make a point of scribbling one down on my phone when we agree...)

Felix is my pick not his - DH worries about the cat connotation but I pointed out we both like Tabitha for a girl so that argument doesn’t really work Grin

This thread is actually really on point for our tastes so glad I posted as if we do get pregnant with a boy it’s a useful placemark ;)

Is this DC1 or are there any sibling names to match? I feel your pain with the nephew names - I loved Rory (worth a try for you but maybe too popular?) until my sister selfishly moved in with her boyfriend of the same name Grin

There was somebody in my children's school called fergal (not sure about spelling sorry) he got a lot of great comments. I like James as you have quite a variety of nicknames, you don't get many Stewart'/stuarts any more, although it was popular when I was at school! 😂
