Hebe...Lilias...Laurel. HELP

I am pg, not due for what feels like a million years (next Aprilish), but I really would like some thoughts on girls names - just to pass the time as I throw up for the second time today really. Boys names I have down, but I haven't found something I love for a girl yet.
My current list:
Lilias (Scottish form of Lilian)
Hebe
Clover (vetoed by dp, but I could work on him...)
Tess
Iris
Laurel

I do love a plant/nature name

How about a flower or plant that appears in April- muscari . Not sure on spelling but it’s a very pretty flower.

Benjispruce · 11/09/2019 17:48

Or Aubretia- Orbreeshia

DarlingNikita · 11/09/2019 17:48

By the way, I think calling the new baby heebie-jeebie to the parents might have sounded a bit mean!

Well, I didn't mean to be! It sounded quite cute to me... I think they'd have said if they didn't like it; they're good friends.

Benjispruce · 11/09/2019 17:52

Darling, at least you voiced what everyone else will think!

UrsulaPandress · 11/09/2019 17:54

Love Hebe.

Calypso?

Dauphinois · 11/09/2019 17:58

Elvie?

DarlingNikita · 11/09/2019 18:00

Benjispruce, exactly! Grin

CassandrasCastle · 11/09/2019 18:54

Well...presumably everyone else doesn't think that, otherwise they wouldn't call their kid Hebe. But I'm sure you know the friendship dynamics a lot better than me, and it did sound cute

Love Hebe. Athena or Artemis?

AudacityOfHope · 11/09/2019 22:14

Calypso 😱

UrsulaPandress · 11/09/2019 22:17

?

thebakerwithboobs · 11/09/2019 22:23

Laurel is lovely. And Laurel in How to Get Away With Murder is badass!

Benjispruce · 11/09/2019 22:59

Never heard of Hebe as a name for a child. I would immediately think heebie jeebie even though I know it’s a plant.

IceCreamConewithaflake · 11/09/2019 23:07

I assumed Liilias was pronounced Lily-ass, others might also make that assumption if they first see the name written down rather than first hear it spoken pronounced. Depends if you would find that annoying.

Kokeshi123 · 12/09/2019 02:06

A lot of people will not know how to pronounce Hebe written down. If they hear it, it will be misheard as Phoebe a lot of the time.

Lilias is OK, but not keen on the "ass" ending.

Laurel is a lovely name--it should be used more often.

LidoDeck · 12/09/2019 02:19

You gotta be shittin me, woman! You'll give everyone the 'hebe' jeebies! AWFUL name, child abuse.

CassandrasCastle · 12/09/2019 07:25

Robin is a lovely name for your potential boy

OP will you find out ‘what’ you're having?

If a girl..... How about Edith? Margaret/Maggie? Emmy/Emmie? Sylvia/Sylvie?

If you like nature names how about Juniper. Rowan is nice but also a boys name like you say. Plus is very popular nowadays and ripe for confusion with the also increasingly ubiquitous RoMan

Bluebell? ( too twee for me)

I love Iris by the way

Frith2013 · 12/09/2019 09:42

Lilias - looks like alias. Is it pronounced Lilly ass? If so, that’s ridiculous.
Hebe - heebie geebies
Clover (vetoed by dp, but I could work on him...) - margarine
Tess - trusty sheepdog
Iris - ok
Laurel - wreaths and death

Ocies · 12/09/2019 09:50

Hebe is a fabulous name! I wanted to call dd Hebe but it really doesn't go with our surname. Dd is now storing it up to use for her own daughter at some point in the future (hopefully ...!)

AverageMummy · 12/09/2019 09:55

I did immediately think heebie jeebies but I think the ‘child abuse’ comment is somewhat extreme!!!

minipie · 12/09/2019 09:56

Laurel - wreaths and death

Laurel wreath = winner, not death. Roman emperors and Greek athletics champions wore them.

CassandrasCastle · 12/09/2019 12:10

No it's not pronounced Lily-ass, that would indeed be an odd choice.
Hebe is growing on me more and more (hoho)...

I LOVE Juniper but it's a strong no from dp.

What do others think of Sorrel?

OP posts:
DarlingNikita · 12/09/2019 13:00

I'm afraid to say I think Sorrel sounds like a horse...

I'm not sure why, but I've a dim idea I read a book as a kid featuring a 'sorrel mare' or something...

But that's my weird association, not yours, obviously!

go for Hebe, you know you want to

17caterpillars1mouse · 12/09/2019 17:53

I love Hebe. I met one once and she was an adorable little toddler.

I also like laurel and Elfie is cute but probably not as an adult
