Hebe...Lilias...Laurel. HELP

I am pg, not due for what feels like a million years (next Aprilish), but I really would like some thoughts on girls names - just to pass the time as I throw up for the second time today really. Boys names I have down, but I haven't found something I love for a girl yet.
My current list:
Lilias (Scottish form of Lilian)
Hebe
Clover (vetoed by dp, but I could work on him...)
Tess
Iris
Laurel

I do love a plant/nature name

I don't see Clover and Lilias as in the same 'type' of name at all. Anyway.
And yes - Hebe, Phoebe...

Daphne is actually pretty cool! I associate it with Daphne Broon from the Broons though

Sorrel is a lovely plant name.

MikeUniformMike · 11/09/2019 16:20

Tess

Chitarra · 11/09/2019 16:20

OP I absolutely love your list! My favourites are Clover and Tess, closely followed by Iris and Lilias. Not so keen on Laurel or Hebe.

CassandrasCastle · 11/09/2019 16:23

Sorry, missed that Daphne is Greek for Laurel - fascinating!

@19SoftBlocks Oh my gosh YES, Sorrel! It's a beautiful name.

No to Hebe . Phoebe sounds much the same.
Rose
Fenella
Elsa

Benjispruce · 11/09/2019 16:35

I like Lilias but prefer Lilia .

DulciUke · 11/09/2019 16:39

Don't like Hebe at all, but love Tess.

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 11/09/2019 16:49

I love lilias, and think heather is nice, but hebe is my favourite- although it's also what our hamster is called 😁

midsomermurderess · 11/09/2019 16:50

I love Hebe but it might be a bit, well, bold. So, Iris as an excellent alternative.

AudacityOfHope · 11/09/2019 16:51

Well @DarlingNikita the point of this forum is that people are asked for their opinions. And I'm sharing mine. That alright with you?

AudacityOfHope · 11/09/2019 16:51

Sorrel is nice!

DarlingNikita · 11/09/2019 16:56

Audacity, that's a bit chippy Grin I was interested in a) why you dislike the pronunciation and b) how else it might be pronounced/what pronunciation you might like better.

AudacityOfHope · 11/09/2019 16:59

Ooh it was, my son's grumpiness momentarily transferred to me! Apologies!

I wasn't sure how it was said, but I don't like the sound heebee. It feels quite hard to say, to me.

mistermagpie · 11/09/2019 17:03

I'm also looking at nature-y girls names for my baby due in December. My list is:

Robyn
Hazel
Iris
Flora
Rowan (but I have the same pronunciation issues that you do!)

I like Laurel from your list, my gut feeling is that my baby will be Hazel.

DarlingNikita · 11/09/2019 17:04

No worries, Audacity!

Although I like it, it is a bit fraught with problems. I recently visited friends who have a new baby Hebe and just couldn't help calling her Heebie-Jeebie Grin I don't think they minded, but maybe they were just being nice...

DarlingNikita · 11/09/2019 17:04

Isn't Rowan like row a boat, rather than a row like an argument?

BendydickCuminsnatch · 11/09/2019 17:08

Erica
Primrose
Tansy

AudacityOfHope · 11/09/2019 17:09

😆 yeah that's not ideal!

Changedname81 · 11/09/2019 17:31

I think Elowen means elm or elm tree in Cornish, which always seems very pretty to me

CassandrasCastle · 11/09/2019 17:33

My Scottish pronunciation has always had first syllable in Rowan pronounced like the argument (unfortunate shorthand, sorry). I'm no sure how I feel about Ro-an.
Sorrel is going on my list, and I think Clover is definitely coming off Sad
By the way, I think calling the new baby heebie-jeebie to the parents might have sounded a bit mean!

WestEndWendie · 11/09/2019 17:34

Holly, Myrtle, Ivy are all good for December babies.

CassandrasCastle · 11/09/2019 17:37

Oh gosh, I'm not sure I could do Myrtle 🙈 It'll be an April baby...bit too literal to call her April I guess, although I think that's pretty nice actually

Hebe and Iris are lovely.
Lilias is fabulous! Never heard it before.
Clover and Laurel are dreadful, as is Elfie and don't start me on Ottilie.
Tess is meh.

Use Lilias!
