Is this a nice name? Knock some sense into me, and quick.

Turned 30 weeks yesterday with a baby girl and I’ve fell head over heels with the name Arietty I’m in loooooveee!!! Is it a dreadful name? It might be hormones.
Disclaimers

  • yes I’m well aware it’s a name from The Borrowers, and that it was made up for it.
  • and yes it was spelt with 2Rs as in Arrietty but I think that makes it a bit clunky!

So please, knock some bloody sense into me. I’m just head over heels with it!

Thank you
Emmy

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SilverySurfer · 22/08/2019 18:43

There are a hell of a lot worse names you could call your child. I think it's quite nice.

Sexnotgender · 22/08/2019 18:44

It’s lovely.

BykerBykerOoh · 22/08/2019 18:45

Sorry I don’t like it. It sounds made up combo of Harriet and Aria. I do love the name Emmy though so if it’s not your real name then use that!

ThatCurlyGirl · 22/08/2019 18:47

MY FAVOURITE!!!

Do it OP, do it for all of us!

I like Arietty, Arrietty and also Ariette. If I have triplets I'll have a field day 😂

I don't know if it's because I loved The Borrowers or just because it's such a lovely sounding name but it's my absolute favourite girls name.

emmyblake · 22/08/2019 18:47

ok not too bad, I’ll wait for the more... strongly opinionated replies!
do you think it’s pretentious?
@BykerBykerOoh it is actually my real name! But short for an Em name !

Like. Smile

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 22/08/2019 18:50

I love it but dh wouldn’t have it. We then went to a kids attraction when Dd was 18 months and he ponied out a little girl called Arrietty and said what a lovely name it was.
I had to walk away for a moment. Angry

Littlechocola · 22/08/2019 18:51

It’s beautiful

ginandwine · 22/08/2019 18:52

Arietty

Sounds like yeti - a mountain creature thing
I don't like it but op it's your baby ur choice

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 22/08/2019 18:52

Lovely. Unusual, but not 'yoonique'. Good choice!

NameChange84 · 22/08/2019 18:53

Go for it! I’d assume that you were bookworms, very cool imo.

Pinkblueberry · 22/08/2019 18:54

It’s cute for a child. I’m not sure if it will suit a teenager or adult.

BogglesGoggles · 22/08/2019 18:54

Is it pronounced A-ree/et-it?

BogglesGoggles · 22/08/2019 18:54

*tee not it

LucieFurr · 22/08/2019 18:54

I don't really like it. It's not horrible, just not to my taste.

I like Arietta. Not sure if it's actually a name but I like it better than Arietty.

SlightlySleepy · 22/08/2019 18:55

Sorry, I can't knock sense into you. I love it. I've never heard of it before and I usually don't like unusual names. I clicked on the thread all ready to tell you it's horrible, but it's not! It's lovely!

BuckingFrolics · 22/08/2019 18:55

Love it.

Nonnymum · 22/08/2019 18:56

I think it's nice

Skyejuly · 22/08/2019 18:56

I like it

ThatCurlyGirl · 22/08/2019 18:56

Oh god @WinkyisbackontheButterBeer how annoying I would have been pretty mardy bum about that if I were you!

MrsBertBibby · 22/08/2019 18:56

It sounds like an H dropping attempt at Harriet.

CarrieBlu · 22/08/2019 18:57

I think I would go with Harriet on the birth certificate and then nickname her Arietty personally. But it’s very sweet.

Chickenwing · 22/08/2019 18:57

Awful. People try too hard to chose u unique names these days.

WhiteVixen · 22/08/2019 18:57

I prefer Arietta or Ariette, it’s the ‘etty’ sound at the end I’m not a fan of for some reason.

7Worfs · 22/08/2019 18:59

Is it pronounced as in ‘variety’? If not, it looks like a try hard with a dropped H.
It’s a no from me I’m afraid 🧐
