Turned 30 weeks yesterday with a baby girl and I’ve fell head over heels with the name Arietty I’m in loooooveee!!! Is it a dreadful name? It might be hormones.
Disclaimers

  • yes I’m well aware it’s a name from The Borrowers, and that it was made up for it.
  • and yes it was spelt with 2Rs as in Arrietty but I think that makes it a bit clunky!

So please, knock some bloody sense into me. I’m just head over heels with it!

Thank you
Emmy

I've loved it ever since the borrowers

Dippypippy1980 · 22/08/2019 19:00

I loved the borrowers - and always liked the name.

Go for it. Just don’t give her clock as a middle name😊

lucylouis · 22/08/2019 19:00

Love it. Loved it on the borrowers too. Beautiful do it!

soundsystem · 22/08/2019 19:01

I really like it!

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 22/08/2019 19:02

A life time of correcting pronunciation and people saying,
"you're a wizard 'Arry"

But both are not enough to stop it being a pretty name.

meandmyboyz · 22/08/2019 19:04

I like it , there are certainly a lot of worst names out there. And it has lots of nice nick name opportunity's xx

7Worfs · 22/08/2019 19:06

"you're a wizard 'Arry’

Thanks for the chuckle Grin

DamnitCharlie · 22/08/2019 19:06

I'm sorry, I don't like it. Sounds a bit like someone saying Harriet wrong in Geordie accent.

peachgreen · 22/08/2019 19:07

Lovely. Would go with Ettie for short to avoid Ari, personally. I love it.

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 22/08/2019 19:09

I think it’s fab.

MrsDimmond · 22/08/2019 19:10

Well Wendy was a name made up by JM Barrie and it becand accepted as a name, so why not Ar(r)ietty?

Arriettyborrower · 22/08/2019 19:14

Excellent name 😉

AhCheeses · 22/08/2019 19:16

I LOVE it. Always have done.
But I have two boys and no girls so... do it for those of us who won't get an Arietty of our own! 😁

AlexaAmbidextra · 22/08/2019 19:17

Only if you and DH are called Pod and Homily.

CatSmize · 22/08/2019 19:18

Lovely.

LittleDoritt · 22/08/2019 19:18

I love it too!

AverageMummy · 22/08/2019 19:18

It’s ok

ooooohbetty · 22/08/2019 19:18

They'll spend their lives having to spell it out every time they have to give their name.

DramaAlpaca · 22/08/2019 19:19

I loved the character in the Borrowers but although it's a sweet name I'm not sure it translates well into real life if I'm honest.

Sophronia · 22/08/2019 19:31

I prefer Arietta.

Cockw0mble · 22/08/2019 19:32

I like it, but worry about how some accents would pronounce it (accents which drop the h at the start of words - would people assume it should be harrietty?). I also like Henrietta / Georgetta / Marrietta

Cbeebiesrehab · 22/08/2019 19:32

I love it!! I 100% would have used it if OH would have allowed itSad

Nonameyet1 · 22/08/2019 19:32

I love the Borrowers and the name.

CeceSL · 22/08/2019 19:39

My friend has one (I suggested it!) Beautiful, do it!

Crochetymum · 22/08/2019 19:40

It's beautiful, I knew I'd heard it before and I don't think it sounds made up. Go for it . I think you might have inspired a few more on here too
