Just seeing if anyone has same nickname for William that my sister suggested. Also how popular it is as lists suggest it isn't really common now which surprised me. Thanks x

@whatausername my sister mentioned Liam which I had never heard of, but a few mentions here. We already have a liam. We also have a nephew on DHs side called Billy so wanted to judge how common that was. Looks like it's back to the drawing board 🤣 my son is four weeks tomorrow. I blame DH for working in education so long!

Yeah, Liam is from William although is more of a standalone name these deals. It would be somewhat like calling your sons James and Jim Grin

whatausername · 29/07/2019 22:18

These days*. Sigh, need more sleep

Lilyannarose · 29/07/2019 22:19

My William has just turned 20, and it was only recently that I discovered Liam was a shortened version (not sure why I didn't realise as it's the last four letters of the name!)
My William is only shortened to Will.
When he was a baby he had a whole host of nicknames which we cringe at now! Bilbo and Wilzywillow being two of them! Blush

lovelyjubilly · 29/07/2019 22:21

My 8yo cousin is Bill

sandalsinthebin · 29/07/2019 22:22

Loads and loads of boys at DS (senior) school are Will

ChildminderMum · 29/07/2019 22:37

You definitely can't have a William and a Liam.

It would be like having a Henry and a Harry, or a John and a Jack - both used as names in their own right but essentially still the same name.

SkydivingKittyCat · 29/07/2019 22:42

I know two young (5yrs & 5 months) Williams, both get called Willbo

BiBiBirdie · 29/07/2019 22:44

My nephew has always been Will. His Dad is Bill
I like those types of names though as you can shorten them.

VivienneHolt · 29/07/2019 22:49

We have a William in the family. We call him Sweet William, but I doubt he'll tolerate that when he's a bit older!

Saharasunset · 29/07/2019 23:50

4 year old Will
13 year old Billy

FishCanFly · 30/07/2019 13:09

my DS is William. Just William, never anything else

bridgetreilly · 30/07/2019 13:48

Yes, I'm afraid it would be weird to have Liam and William as siblings.

Lavenderblues · 30/07/2019 14:22

Willy, Will or Wills

mumtobe1984 · 31/07/2019 23:46

Billy.. Willy... Wiley.. Bailey

Equatoria · 31/07/2019 23:53

All the Williams I know are Will for short. Used to know of a Bill who'd be 50-something now.

NameChangerOfTheNorth · 01/08/2019 00:00

I know a few Williams:
one goes by Thomas / Tom Smile (it's his surname- I don't know why either)
couple of Will's
One's a Bill, but he is older
I went to school with a Liam who I later found out was a William.

stupidboyman · 01/08/2019 00:08

Will and Wilbur
