Just seeing if anyone has same nickname for William that my sister suggested. Also how popular it is as lists suggest it isn't really common now which surprised me. Thanks x

Billy

Grufallosfriends · 28/07/2019 22:56

Billy sounds short for Billiam (and Willy for William)

CassianAndor · 28/07/2019 22:57

The William I know, who is about 4,is William, no nickname.

CoodleMoodle · 28/07/2019 23:04

I know a William who is nearly 5 (at school with DD). He's always William, never shortened!

ThatCurlyGirl · 28/07/2019 23:04

A Billy and a Will

NameChange84 · 28/07/2019 23:04

Most are William, no nicknames.

Occasionally Will, Wills.

Never known a Willie probably for obvious reasons. Liam is a derivative of William but I’ve never heard that as a nickname for one. Bill and Billy are used with older generations.

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 28/07/2019 23:05

I know 3, one is Billy, the other two are just William.

PaquitaVariation · 28/07/2019 23:06

I know 3, one is just William, one Will and one Billy.

anothermansmother · 28/07/2019 23:06

I know 4 one of them being my ds. My son is called will by his friends, a recent thing with starting secondary school.
My uncle ( by marriage) is known as bill ( late 50s)
Others are 16...also known as will
And 6 known as billy

Elmo311 · 28/07/2019 23:06

Willie

BigGlasses · 28/07/2019 23:59

All the Williams I know are about 60-70. 2are Bill and one Willie. Lots of my grandparents generation were William (all sadly passed now) but amongst the nicknames were Wim - sounded a bit like Whim but without the wh sound- presumably came from the Wm shortening that you used to see in shops/lorries etc. And another was Beam which seemed to be a mixture of Bill & Liam which got changed to Beam.

Rivkka · 29/07/2019 00:19

Liam and Will

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/07/2019 00:20

Billy, Bill, Steve (don't ask), Willy, Will.

I hardly know any Williams and definitely not any babies / toddlers. The ones I've met have been Will. I think it's a great name!

cptartapp · 29/07/2019 07:47

I know a few and without exception they are all known as Will.

EggysMom · 29/07/2019 07:52

I knew a few in Scotland, mainly Bills or Willies. Haven't come across any since coming back to England!

EdtheBear · 29/07/2019 07:53
