Are these names too marmite?

Trying to pick a girls name and here's the shortlist... I know a few of these some people either love or hate. I don't want to pick something too of the moment but I don't want something boring either... which would you pick? I have a son with a very classic name... Happy for other suggestions too.

Cleo
Jemima
Astrid
Blossom
Tulip
Agnes
Lavender
Celine

Agnes is the only one I like but I don't think any of them are too out there. I would probably avoid Blossom if your son has a classic name as would be a bit too different.

DramaAlpaca · 12/03/2019 20:15

I love Cleo & Celine.

Agnes, Jemima & Astrid are OK but not really my cup of tea.

I really dislike all three of those flower names, especially Blossom.

Saffrona · 12/03/2019 20:20

Cleo- no
Jemima- this one is getting popular, but I think it’s only being used because all the previously higher society names have become popular, so people are looking elsewhere.
Astrid- don’t like
Blossom- too hippy
Tulip- hasn’t caught on yet
Agnes- still old lady to me
Lavender- I see potential in this name to be the new “Violet”
Celine- I like this name

Saffrona · 12/03/2019 20:21

I didn’t mention that I like Lavender. Nice meaning, and nice sound

Bigonesmallone3 · 12/03/2019 20:22

Cleo
Jemima
Agnes
Nice names

Astrid- no
Blossom- I cringe saying it
Tulip
Lavender
I don't like

How do you pronounce Celine?

BikeRunSki · 12/03/2019 20:22

Not Marmite, I like Astrid best.

Babyfoal · 12/03/2019 20:23

Not the flower ones. How about Marguerite for a flower name?

Zogsyoungersister · 12/03/2019 20:26

Does marguerite sound a bit Spanish though?? We're very pasty Grin

None of the flower ones, and I find Agnes very ugly. (It's the Ag bit. Inez is nice.) I like the rest of your list.

Mmmhmmokdear · 12/03/2019 20:27

I absolutely love:

Cleo
Jemima
Astrid

and Celine is fine, but reminds me of Celine Dion.

Not a fan of the others.

Awrite · 12/03/2019 20:29

I like only Cleo.

MondeoFan · 12/03/2019 20:32

I love all of the names you've chosen except lavender as don't feel it's a real name but really like all the rest, better than more Graces, Emily's or Amelia's

pilates · 12/03/2019 20:35

Love Jemima but not keen on the rest

Tavannach · 12/03/2019 20:42

Cleo
Astrid

Imogen

Ricnmorg · 12/03/2019 20:48

Alice?

MollyHuaCha · 12/03/2019 20:55

Cleo - no
Jemima - beautiful
Astrid - love it
Blossom - no
Tulip - no
Agnes - lovely
Lavender - no
Celine - gorgeous

Zogsyoungersister · 12/03/2019 20:56

Ok so so far everyone hates Blossom but there's a spread about the rest...

I like Alice but it goes badly with surname. Imogen I should like but don't. I find it a bit harsh?

Is Jemima getting popular??
Does Cleo seem too much like all the other four letter names that are super popular at the moment?
Would Lavender get shorted to Lav?

OP posts:
TheLovelyOtherDinosaur · 12/03/2019 20:57

Celine or Jemima

Bonniefoible · 12/03/2019 21:00

Have you thought of Cliona. Clio as a non?

grasspigeons · 12/03/2019 21:01

I like them all. I'm not keen on lavender as it would be 'lav' or 'Lavvy'

Bonniefoible · 12/03/2019 21:01

Stupid auto correct. Clio as a nick name I meant to say. Blush

Marmite27 · 12/03/2019 21:01

What about Lavinia?

I’ll be honest my only dealings with it are from Jilly Cooper, but it seems like it would fit.

RaininSummer · 12/03/2019 21:02

Not keen on Blossom, Tulip, Agnes or Lavender tbh. Though if you like them my opinion really doesn't matter x

mummyhaschangedhername · 12/03/2019 21:07

No to blossom and tulip from me, others are nice though.

Bellatrix14 · 12/03/2019 21:08

I love Cleo, Jemima and Astrid. I don’t mind Lavender and Celine, don’t like Agnes, Blossom or Tulip.

Agnes seems to have become bizarrely fashionable and I really can’t understand. It’s my least favourite of all your names and it’s one of the more ‘normal’ ones!
