Are these names too marmite?

Trying to pick a girls name and here's the shortlist... I know a few of these some people either love or hate. I don't want to pick something too of the moment but I don't want something boring either... which would you pick? I have a son with a very classic name... Happy for other suggestions too.

Cleo
Jemima
Astrid
Blossom
Tulip
Agnes
Lavender
Celine

Don't like any of them, sorry.
Going through my keyboard and thinking of the first/coolest/least of the moment name i can think of for each letter (because your list doesn't seem to follow any particular pattern or vibe)

Quinn, Wilma, Esther, Ramona, Trudy, Yasmin, Ursula, Iris, Orchid, Polly, Ariel, Susanna, Dorothy, Faith, Greta, Helen, Judith, Kirsten, Louisa, Zoe, Xanthi, Caroline, Victoria, Betty, Naomi, Melissa

Wedgiecar58 · 13/03/2019 09:43

I like Astrid and Lavender.

aliceandkids77 · 13/03/2019 09:53

The only ones I really like are Cleo and Jemima but remember its your decision that matters! if you like the names then you should go for it x

Zogsyoungersister · 13/03/2019 10:10

@NeverTalksToStrangers amazingly your random approach has resulted in quite a lot of names I like!

Iris, Orchid, Polly, Ariel, Susanna, Dorothy, Faith, Greta, Helen, Xanthi, Caroline, Victoria, Betty, Naomi all good.

I like Clementine, and Stella too, although can't have either iris or Stella as clash with last name.

Jemima seems pretty marmite. Most people liking Astrid and Cleo..? The flower names may be off the table

Zogs thanks! Special thanks actually because my own name is one of the ones you liked. Blush

Do you have a front runner?

Zogsyoungersister · 13/03/2019 19:31

Mmmm probably Jemima... I like really like Astrid but DH less keen. He likes Cleo more than I do. I do really like the more "normal" names Caroline, Helena, Susanna, Victoria so they're definitely still on the table. I like Eleanor too, but hate Ellie. I really love Lavender but I think the shortening issues probably rule it out and I think DH less keen. Celine is beautiful although a friend just named their dog it Confused

In our family the Lav is the loo so that would rule out Lavender for me.

My fave one in your list is Cleo, and the second is Agnes. Met someone called Audrey the other day which I also love.

TakenForSlanted · 13/03/2019 19:34

Love Astrid. Like Cleo. Less keen on the rest.

Zogsyoungersister · 13/03/2019 19:38

Ooh yes I also like Audrey

I really like Astrid- i know two
I also really like Tulip though it's definitely marmite but imo some of the best names are

Love love love Agnes!

Really dislike Clio and Blossom

I like Lavender it reminds me of the girl in Matilda. Not sure I would want to be called it though if you know what I mean

SteelRiver · 13/03/2019 20:05

Sorry, OP, but none of the names on your original list appeal to me. NeverTalksToStrangers has come up with some lovely suggestions, though. I especially like Caroline (or Carolina), Louisa and Zoe. Faith is an absolutely beautiful name.

I quite like names which are very versatile and can be adapted depending on the bearer's age, Alexandra for example - Lexie, Alex, Alexa, Lex. I don't envy parents having to pick names now. Sometimes, I feel that some parents often don't think ahead to their kid being a teen, or in the workplace, a parent themselves, a pensioner etc. This is why I'm not keen on some of the 'in fashion' names; pick an always stylish name instead.

Zogsyoungersister · 13/03/2019 20:25

@17caterpillars1mouse finally someone else who likes tulip! I don't know why everyone hates it so much! Yep I love the book Matilda so lavender is definitely from that... I'm sad it doesn't shorten well.

@SteelRiver I agree and I do also like faith and Alexandra but unfortunately can't use the latter as already in the family.

It is hard picking a name that's classic/not too common/pretty/strong/not too unusual/versatile Confused

I love Audrey.
Plus it looks like I am the only one this thread to really like Blossom! In fact I like it so much that I have named one of my cats Blossom.
There was a girl in DDs school last year named Amaryliss…..beautiful.

MrsS92 · 13/03/2019 20:43

My DD is Jemima, I’ve not met another one yet.
She usually gets called Mima!
It’s my favourite from your list but I might be biased !
What about Nancy, Bridie, Genevieve or Eliza ?

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 13/03/2019 20:46

Cleo

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 13/03/2019 20:48

What about:

Marigold - Goldie for short?

MamaDane · 13/03/2019 20:55

Love Astrid and Agnes but I'm Scandinavian and they are common names here. Don't know how they are seen in the UK.

TulipsTulipsTulips · 13/03/2019 20:56

Only Celine

TulipsTulipsTulips · 13/03/2019 20:56

I meant to say I only like Celine

Zogsyoungersister · 13/03/2019 21:06

Oh yes love Marigold and Genevieve too. Marigold was vetoed by DH Sad amaryllis is pretty

Two lips put me off Tulip for life

Zogsyoungersister · 13/03/2019 21:10

@TulipsTulipsTulips only celine... despite your name! Grin

OP posts:
Barbarafromblackpool · 13/03/2019 21:17

Agnes

MercyBodle · 13/03/2019 22:03

Ooh I adore Amaryllis! I love Jemima from your list, and think Cleo is also a great choice. I do like Lavender and Tulip, but don't find them easy to use in real life: I would love them as a middle name. If you love Blossom I would use it for a nickname for something more classic. Celine is very bland and would be the first one I'd cross off. Astrid and Agnes are okay, just not my personal cup of tea. From other suggestions I think Greta, Susannah, Victoria are great.

Jemima is not in the top 100 names so I wouldn't worry about popularity.
Jemima Tulip or Cleo Lavender would work!

Icklepup · 14/03/2019 07:54

Only like Astrid
