Are these names too marmite?

Trying to pick a girls name and here's the shortlist... I know a few of these some people either love or hate. I don't want to pick something too of the moment but I don't want something boring either... which would you pick? I have a son with a very classic name... Happy for other suggestions too.

Cleo
Jemima
Astrid
Blossom
Tulip
Agnes
Lavender
Celine

Jemima is a duck’s name.

Nnnnnineteen · 12/03/2019 21:12

Your list started well...! Love jemima and Cleo. I assiciate Astrid with a fabulously beautiful South American woman, I think a Venezuelan lady with that name won miss world in about 1986... the others aren't marmite, cos I love marmite!!

AdaColeman · 12/03/2019 21:17

Astrid is my favourite from your list.

I don't like Blossom Lavender or Tulip! Imagine the nn Lavy or Lippo!

SoftBlocks · 12/03/2019 21:20

Cleo and Tulip

fishonabicycle · 12/03/2019 21:22

Love Astrid and Cleo. Not Agnes. Rest are ok.

Jamhandprints · 12/03/2019 21:28

I like Astrid.

IggyPoppers · 12/03/2019 21:42

You really can't call a baby Lavender....the most obvious shortening is Lav. Have a heart and choose a different name! Even if the adults are polite about it the kids won't be. I think Cleo is the nicest of the bunch.

Mmmhmmokdear · 12/03/2019 21:48

Bonnie Clio = Renault Clio!! Cleo = name gavel Grin

TatianaLarina · 12/03/2019 21:49

I like Celine, the rest are horse names.

Luckingfovely · 12/03/2019 21:54

These four, no way:

Blossom
Tulip
Agnes
Lavender

The rest are lovely!

But as this thread proves they're all marmite Grin

Arowana · 12/03/2019 21:58

I know a Cleo and she constantly gets called Chloe. Honestly you’d be amazed how often it happens!

Jemima is my favourite from your list.

AuntieStella · 12/03/2019 22:00

Cleo - like, but homophobe to the car and that might be bothersome
Jemima - lovely and I think best fit from your list to a classic boy's name
Astrid - OK, wouid sit well with other Scandi or German names
Blossom - no. Might make a nice nn for a flower name though
Tulip - don't like
Agnes - like
Lavender - like, but wouid you want to live with the inevitable shortening to Lav or Lavvie? And definitely don't use if the classic boys name you used is Louis
Celine - don't like, sounds a bit wet (sorry)

singingismypassion · 12/03/2019 22:02

I love these names. Tulip is the only one I probably think is marmite.

NorthernRunner · 12/03/2019 22:05

I like Celine and Agnes.

I also really like Astrid, I know a little 3yr old with that name and she is so strong and happy, I smile whenever I think of the name.

I am not a fan of frilly, flowery names so blossom and tulip aren’t for me.
Lavender is alright, reminds me of Lavender brown from Harry Potter (not a bad thing!)

Cleo, is sweet but not OTT, I can imagine a teenage cleo just as much as a baby cleo...hope that makes sense.

What about;
Maple
Clementine
Mabel
Iris
Stella

RayaJambalaya · 12/03/2019 23:03

Cleo (my fave. OH vetoed)
Astrid (name of my friends baby and I love it!)
And Lavendar. Don't hear this one enough! Although I've just thought that it would probably get shortened to 'Lav' which isn't so great Confused

WBWIFE · 12/03/2019 23:11

Cleo reminds me of hollyoaks chav family the McQueens and I also hate any names that are cars anyway, as to me they sound chavvy. Cleo, Bentley,Mercedes etc

Astrid is the only okay one for me out of the list

MrsBertBibby · 12/03/2019 23:22

Astrid is great.

The rest are a bit meh, Blossom, Jemima and Lavender are ghastly.

mrsdavys · 12/03/2019 23:22

I love Cleo and Astrid!!
Celine is quite nice too

BlackPrism · 13/03/2019 00:06

Other than Agnes I love them

pineapplebryanbrown · 13/03/2019 00:24

What about Selene - moon.

Sophronia · 13/03/2019 05:10

I like Jemima, Agnes and Lavender

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 13/03/2019 07:00

I like Jemima

Cyberworrier · 13/03/2019 07:11

Astrid and Cleo are lovely names.
How about Selina/Serena instead of Celine (Dion!)?
Second Lavinia instead of Lavender.
How about Iris or Rose as classic flower names? Or Dahlia?
I’m afraid Jemima is too Puddle-Duck for me.
Agnes I’m not sure about- maybe ok?

CeeCee88 · 13/03/2019 07:16

Cleo and Astrid are lovely.

Absolutely no to the flower names.
The rest are ok.

But ultimately it's up to you what you pick. :)

PBobs · 13/03/2019 07:31

I like Astrid. Don't love any of the others.
