Alfie for a girl?

I know I'm probably about to get trolled but I would really like some honest opinions on the name Alfie for a girl (short for Alfreda to make it less radical)

There is a Bertie in dds class (Alberta). Actually quite cool no one bats an eyelid

Orchidflower1 · 19/01/2019 09:17

I’m sorry I don’t like it- which is odd because I like Charlie ( short for Charlotte). Maybe it’s because my dc each seem to have lots of (male) Alfie’s in their classes. It’s quite a common name I think now.

SoyDora · 19/01/2019 09:20

I know so, so many toddler Alfie’s (boys) that I wouldn’t saddle a girl with it.

Nnnnnineteen · 19/01/2019 09:21

I don't like it, but then I don't like it on boys either.

FamilyOfAliens · 19/01/2019 09:23

Why choose a lovely, unusual girl’s name like Alfreda and then shorten it ton extremely popular boy’s name?

MissingGeorgeMichael · 19/01/2019 09:26

Alfie is a boys name, wouldn't name a girl that.

MsTSwift · 19/01/2019 09:27

Yes I think it won’t work as Alfie is currently popular for boys

NotANotMan · 19/01/2019 09:28

Obviously not. Poor hypothetical kid!

SoyDora · 19/01/2019 09:28

Meant to say I do like Alfreda, but I wouldn’t shorten to Alfie as there are just so many of them around.

IceRebel · 19/01/2019 09:28

I wouldn't it's a very common boys name I must know of over 20 at least, and quite a lot of them are just Alfie. I really like the name Alfreda, perhaps you could use Allie / Ally if you want to shorten it, although I think it's a great standalone name by itself.

Sarahandduck18 · 19/01/2019 09:29

I think you’d have to put a y on the end to distinguish from the millions of male Alfie’s

If you like Alfie what about Effie?

MumUnderTheMoon · 19/01/2019 09:32

I like it but when you call it in the playground she, and probably half a dozen little boys, will respond.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 19/01/2019 09:32

God no,sorry

Wolfiefan · 19/01/2019 09:33

It’s a boys name.
Freda instead?
But you can’t decide a nickname in advance. Your child will choose eventually what diminutive version (if any) of their name they wish to be called.

NotANotMan · 19/01/2019 10:08

Albie is also a boys name

BurtTyrannosaurusMacklin · 19/01/2019 10:09

I don't like it I'm afraid. But not a boy/girl thing, I also hate it as a boy's name!

HoraceCope · 19/01/2019 10:09

no, i dont think its fair

KittyLikesMagic · 19/01/2019 10:10

I think it's cute, but I couldn't do it. I know a man with a unisex name, but that is far more commonly used for females. Even when he signs off emails/letters as Mr, he still gets replied to as Mrs or Miss as people assume it's a mistake. He's constantly asked to repeat his name. It gets very annoying for him.

Also, this won't be as much of a consideration as it's VERY niche but there's an x-rated adult webcomic with a female Alfie in it... And I mean VERY x rated.
