Alfie for a girl?

I know I'm probably about to get trolled but I would really like some honest opinions on the name Alfie for a girl (short for Alfreda to make it less radical)

OP posts:

I know I'm probably about to get trolled

Do you mean flamed?

Erm nope Alfie is bad enough for a boy let alone a girl.

kalefire · 19/01/2019 19:22

AWFUL

ZebraKid71 · 19/01/2019 20:45

I like Alfreda... If you wanted a male nn I'd prefer Freddy to Alfie. I know a female Freddy, Frédérica, and love it on her!

Ngaio2 · 19/01/2019 21:46

I know an adult Alfreda (Alfie/Fea for short) and she would screech “No, don’t do it” because she loathes her name.
She was named the last time around that these names were popular.

starkid · 19/01/2019 21:59

Noooo

StripLynchet · 19/01/2019 22:00

I love it. But Freddie would be even better.

Picknickers · 19/01/2019 23:10

It's my mum's dogs name

greatpotential · 19/01/2019 23:26

Alfa from Alfreda instead? Or just call her Alpha?

Ribbonsonabox · 19/01/2019 23:30

Alfreda is a gorgeous name!

Sophia1984 · 19/01/2019 23:32

Elfrieda and Elfie?

moredoll · 20/01/2019 00:16

No

ilovepixie · 20/01/2019 00:42

I like it.

elle1111112 · 20/01/2019 00:49

No. Would you want a boys name OP?

multivac · 20/01/2019 00:53

Love Alfreda; she could be 'Alf', or, as a pp suggested, 'Alfa'.

Or Fred, which is also, imo, fab for a girl.

blueskiesandforests · 20/01/2019 00:58

Do people posting on baby names think of the human being who'll bear the name for (hopefully,) 70,-99 years, or just about how cool their name choice will make them look...

whoischerylsstylist · 20/01/2019 01:04

My daughter is Elfie, short for Elfreda (named after my grannie), and she/I love her name. Unusual without being weird!!!

I always think when she feels she grows out of Elfie she can be Elle/Ellie/Freda

multivac · 20/01/2019 01:06

I don't know, blueskies - I can only speak for myself. Naming a child has always felt like a gift and a responsibility, to me. I desperately wanted an androgynous name when I was younger, and would still like one now.

blueskiesandforests · 20/01/2019 01:24

multivac I guess that's a grass is greener thing - I remember my parents sponsored a child in India who referred to "your son [my name] and your daughters [my sisters' names]. It was embarrassing at 9. It continued to be. I unfortunately have unisex names both as first and middle names and have been made to suffer for it. My parents chose to send me to all girls schools and live remotely , I have no close male relatives, which made my first encounters with male peers accutely embarrassing questions when I introduced myself with a male sounding name... I eventually made a massive point of being sexually dominant and not allowing myself to be hurt +but consequently not getting close to anyone and hurting others) for years. Having a boy's name isn't the only reason but it doesn't help.

Its shit. Don't hurt your baby before the poor girl's even born.

HollyBen · 20/01/2019 01:33

Not overly keen on Alfie (for a boy or a girl) but Alfreda is truely awful.

Astronica · 20/01/2019 06:40

I like Alfie nn for Alfreda. But then I also like George nn for Georgina/Georgia, Max for Maximillienne, Freddie for Frederica, Leo for Leonora.

Weezermum · 20/01/2019 06:57

I think it’s quite cute- nicknames can be anything, it doesn’t matter that boys are called Alfie. I know girls called
Freddy (short for Freda)
Charlie (shirt for Charlotte)
Ally (short for alison)
Etc

tammytoby · 20/01/2019 07:08

I agree that nicknames can be anything! I know girls and women nicknamed Charlie, Alex, Jo, Freddie! As long as their proper names are Charlotte, Alexandra, Johanna or Frederica, their nicknames can be anything.

JenE1 · 20/01/2019 15:52

Oh boo to all these name bores! I think it's lovely, also think Freddie is gorgeous for a little girl.

Jiggins · 20/01/2019 16:05

Alfie is a boring name. Giving it to a girl doesn't make it less boring, it will just mean her life is also full of endless dull conversations about why her parents called her Alfie.

SoyDora · 20/01/2019 16:30

I think anyone using the name Alfie is a name bore to be honest as there are so many of them around!
