Honest opinions on Edith please...

Not that we should be adding to our ridiculously long girl's list but I've been liking it a lot recently... I'm curious to know how well received it is. Thanks!

Love Edith

OutPinked · 20/08/2018 22:08

I love it, especially when shortened to Edie.

neveradullmoment99 · 20/08/2018 22:53

I love that name :)

MikeUniformMike · 20/08/2018 22:53

Frumpy

JanuarySkies · 20/08/2018 22:55

Chickoletta · 20/08/2018 23:13

Love it!

Chic & cool. A hipster name.
Eden, ok if you’re a hippy but could slip into chav territory if becomes popular

wijjy · 20/08/2018 23:35

Went to an Edith's christening this month. I've decided I love it.

Onecutefox · 20/08/2018 23:38

How about Editha instead of Edith?

Labradoodliedoodoo · 20/08/2018 23:43

Erica and faith are nice too

delphguelph · 20/08/2018 23:58

French SIL is Édith, pronounced Ed-itt which I think is less pretty than the English pronunciation.

She suits it though.

Makes me think of Downton....

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 21/08/2018 00:17

Meh.

Mwnci123 · 21/08/2018 00:20

Pretty.

Clairetree1 · 21/08/2018 00:26

very nice, but also quite fashionable, if that bothers you. I have one in most year groups at secondary school. It got quite big about 16-18 years ago I think, so lots in the sixth form, but there has been a steady trickle since too.

pixieloux · 21/08/2018 06:26

@Onecutefox I'm really not sure on Editha... Maybe it'll grow on me.

@userofthiswebsite - I honestly never got into Downtown Abbey despite trying. I probably should try to re-watch it for more ideas as the character's names would be right up my street lol.

I prefer Ethel.

N0bodysM0t · 21/08/2018 06:48

Editha, no no no no. The whole point of the name is that it's an old classic. Sticking an 'a' on the end of it kills it!

I guess Lady Edith and then Margot Robbie and Margot from despicable me will have made both of those two names rise a bit up the charts. They're pretty though! I honestly don't ''hear'' how Edith is clunky but I know a lot of people think it.

My DD is 15 and some of her friends have beautiful names. She isn't at one of these schools (disclaimer) but she met a bunch of girls from a mixture of fee paying schools over the summer on various courses and camps and their names were all fabulous. So it depends where your DC will be going to school. If it's a fee paying school in Dublin then don't worry that your naming style is more in line with UK naming. They like their old lady naming chic too!

Love Edith 💕

Reastie · 21/08/2018 07:28

Love it, love Edith and Edie

deptfordgirl · 21/08/2018 08:07

Love. So sweet but also very good for a grownup. Not so keen on Edie though.

ZowieBowie · 21/08/2018 08:23

We have a 5 year old Edith and she wears her name well! I always thought it would shorten to Edie, but DD prefers her full name.

She’s the only one we have met so far. She loves her name because it’s “not like everyone else’s” and identifys strongly with the historical Edith’s who share her name.

MustBeThursday · 21/08/2018 08:34

I like it. I worked at a nursery with a little Edith (known as Edie) and she was adorable. And she's the only one I've met so it's not been ruined for me...

morningconstitutional2017 · 21/08/2018 08:48

I'm not over keen in it simply due to associations with my old Auntie Edith who was lovely - but wore scary red lipstick and insisted on a big kiss at the end of each visit.

Mum had an Aunt Daisy who wore Captain Mainwaring type glasses and a shingle curl hairstyle so I find that name terribly old-fashioned also. But these are my associations, not yours, so go for it as you like it.
