Ever since I was a little girl my favorite flowers were daffodils and I really like creative names so I was thinking the name daffodil for my new daughter. What are your honest thoughts? Is it to “out there”? Because daffie would be a really cute nickname but my sister and dad don’t like it that much. Opinions???

It's your hormones.

loopylass13 · 14/07/2018 21:31

I know a little girl with Daffodil as a middle name but I think she would suit it as a first name too. Personally I quite like the name and you can nickname to Dil/Dilly. If you feel it is too out there, use as a middle name as my friend has done :)

Firsttimemum892 · 14/07/2018 21:32

I actually don’t mind it too much but thing very long and hard about it , I called my baby something very unique and I know people probably take the piss out of it but I love it and I know it has grown on my friends and family. In 30 years time there are going to be a lot of unusual names so don’t worry about her going into a business meeting Hmm

Please go for Jonquil instead. They look just like daffodils, only prettier, and It works much better as a name. I even prefer Narcissus to Daffodil, I think.

TiltedTowers · 14/07/2018 21:32

What about Daphne with childhood nick name Daffodil.

But Daphne isn't great either but it still seems the sensible alternative.

Firsttimemum892 · 14/07/2018 21:32

Better than her being the 20th Olivia or Amelia in her school I say

SchoolWorrier · 14/07/2018 21:32

I usually hate all "out there" name suggestions, but I quite like Daffodil. Why is it any more unsuitable than Daisy or Poppy?

HostaToFortune · 14/07/2018 21:33

A grown woman cannot walk around with the name daffodil. It’s ridiculous.

EmmaC78 · 14/07/2018 21:35

Awful. No way would I want to be burdened with the name Daffodil at work. It would be mortifying in meetings.

ForTheLoveOfCakes · 14/07/2018 21:36

Daphne and dill for short?

PippilottaLongstocking · 14/07/2018 21:37

I think it’s lovely! And Daffie/Dilly as a nickname. (Also Daffodil is much prettier than Jonquil!)

MorrisIsClose · 14/07/2018 21:38

"I even prefer Narcissus to Daffodil, I think."

What.... Narcissus?!!

That's a million times worse than Daffodil. Don't use that alternative suggestion OP. Christ

Narcissus!

fruitbrewhaha · 14/07/2018 21:38

I think it ok, quite cute. I also like Marigold or Primrose too.

PippilottaLongstocking · 14/07/2018 21:40

Or Daphne Dilys!

Definitely an old lady name but I think they’re both ones that are trendy again now, I’ve definitely met at least one small Dilys.

Knittedfairies · 14/07/2018 21:40

No.

Somerville · 14/07/2018 21:41

The thing is, Morris - at least Narcissus is a real name in Harry Potter
But in all honesty, if I had to be called one, I would choose Jonquil first. Actually I might swap that for my real name, it's cool. Then Narcissus. Which is horrible. And then Daffodil, which is horrible and ridiculous.

kayakingmum · 14/07/2018 21:42

I would go for Daphne as well, or Daffodil as a middle name.
Having said that I think whatever name you choose will suite her. Partly because everyone will get used to it and partly because she's your daughter. Another benefit is that people will remember her name. That's worth a lot.

Chasingcars123 · 14/07/2018 21:42

Absolutely awful followed closely by Jonquil. Are you genuinely taking the p*

TigerDroveAgain · 14/07/2018 21:44

I had the same MN reaction when I said Snowdrop. I don’t think Daff is a dreadful name but the Odill is a bit much

DPotter · 14/07/2018 21:45

In the name of all that you hold sacred - please do not saddle your daughter with this name. Go into dairy farming if you feel the absolute need to call a female animal Daffodil, but not your daughter.

Chasingcars123 · 14/07/2018 21:45

Narcissus?? Well honestly thank you so much, this has given me the best laugh I have had in ages!!

Yika · 14/07/2018 21:47

I know a Narcisa, it's pretty enough.

I think daffodil sounds silly but why not use it as a middle name where you could get away with it.

calzone · 14/07/2018 21:48

Honestly please don’t call your daughter Daffodil.

Would you want to be called Daffodil?

TroysMammy · 14/07/2018 21:49

Considering I've recently heard someone has called their baby girl Chilli I'd say Daffodil isn't that bad, but only as a middle name.

Vanillamanilla1 · 14/07/2018 21:50

I quite like it to be honest
