Thoughts on name daffodil

Ever since I was a little girl my favorite flowers were daffodils and I really like creative names so I was thinking the name daffodil for my new daughter. What are your honest thoughts? Is it to “out there”? Because daffie would be a really cute nickname but my sister and dad don’t like it that much. Opinions???

Or they could be my favoured Narcissus, and Nasturtium.

Florals are so passé. What about (on a tennis theme as seems appropriate today) Nastase? Or Nietzsche? Or Nostradamus?

Sounds like high jinks may be on the menu for later? Wink. You can't beat a tot of gin!

Juniper!! Or Ginevra? Why didn't I think of that before.....?

Somerville · 14/07/2018 23:17

I didn't actually mean that type of high-jinks, but now it's so late there's no time for any other type I suppose... As long as he doesn't object to the crumbs I've left in the bed. (Sobering up with toast.)

Ginevra - back to Harry Potter names!
I know a little Juniper actually. (My father said to her dad 'oh, it's the posh version of calling a child Chardonnay!' and got my parents dropped from their xmas card list!)

Smidge001 · 14/07/2018 23:23

I actually really quite like the name daffodil. Unfortunately though, I'm sure throughout high school she'd get called daffo-dildo.

Ericho · 14/07/2018 23:35

Oh ffs, grow up. You're naming a person, who will need to grow up, get an education and have a career.

You're not naming an eternally young and adorable baby.

Hippopotas · 14/07/2018 23:42

I like it but then daffodils are my favourite flowers.

LovelyBranches · 14/07/2018 23:45

How about Nanci (This is a Welsh spelling), it’s inspired by Narcissus and Welsh in spelling which seems appropriate given that daffodils are our national flower.

Thank you all for your input, I still like the name daffodil but still like less traditional names aswell, please leave your thoughts on these names

Stella
Eilidh
Scout
Coco(short for Colette)
Jami
Eliana
Poppy (short for Penelope)
Gracelynn
Pheobe
Amaryllis
Shay
Adalie

Thank you all for your feedback and I might still use daffodil as a middle name and I am a big fan of double names so please leave those suggestions

I like Daffodil. But then I seriously considered Narcissa and Anemone - I had threads on here about both. I was talked out of it, but I still like them.

Not keen on any of your new list.

ProfessorMoody · 15/07/2018 07:44

I like variations on your names. I prefer Estella. Shay is awful. I know a "Jammy" who is the most adorable little girl. It's short for Jasmine but the school staff really take the piss about it.

I know too many dogs called Scout and Coco.

Poppy and Phoebe are nice and Adelaide is very popular at the moment.

mulberrymelody · 15/07/2018 07:44

You have a very varied list there op
Sorry, but l don’t like like them...
I like Cora .... it goes nicely with
Rose
Beth
Louise
Smile

StrawberryCat · 15/07/2018 07:48

Oh no, I'm really sorry, but that would be awful for the child to grow up with! A baby and toddler called Daffodil is cute, but a teenager or a working woman, no!!

Why not just use it at home as a pet name?

My DD is called Posey by me and DH and sometimes our families, but her real name is Emma!

StrawberryCat · 15/07/2018 07:51

Oh just seen your list of names! Some lovely ones there!

I really like:
Eilidh
Poppy/ Penelope
Collette/Coco
Stella
Phoebe
Adalie

dangerrabbit · 15/07/2018 07:58

Eilidh is a lovely name.

SleepFreeZone · 15/07/2018 08:00

I like Scout 👍

Hangingaroundtheportal · 15/07/2018 08:03

@Sarahgrace123

Good for you for taking all that criticism on the chin, rather than getting all shitty with people!

Out of your list I like:

Stella
Eilidh
Scout
Poppy (short for Penelope)
Pheobe
Shay

Think very carefully about names, I was going to call my baby Indigo if she was a girl! I'm so glad I had a boy because I hate that name now! I think with new-age and very different names it's easy to change your mind at a later date - when it's too late 🙈 I do love flower names though and alternate names but just have to think of them as an adult, they need to be taken seriously.
I do like girls flower names how about these;
Iris
Daisy
Primrose
Blossom
Jasmine
Rose
Heather
Marigold
Poppy
Lilly
Dahlia,
Or maybe use one as a middle name?

Your baby, your choice :) just giving my opinion BearThanks

flumpybear · 15/07/2018 08:07

Daffodil is a ridiculous name - daf forever - awful

Your list I like iliana and phoebe

knickerbockergloryy · 15/07/2018 08:07

Just seen your names list! LOVE THEM NAMES!!!!

insancerre · 15/07/2018 08:11

I know a baby called bluebelle
Why would any one do that to their child?
I

RoseMartha · 15/07/2018 08:12

Gracelynn I like best from the others you posted.

Eliana is quite nice too.

auntyflonono · 15/07/2018 08:13

Wordsworth's wife was called Dorothy, how about that?

Ummmmgogo · 15/07/2018 08:18

Daffodil, Eliana and Gracelyn are nice from your list.

however don't take mumsnet too seriously. I have seen some incredibly ugly/ridiculous names suggested on here. she's your baby; when she's born you will know what to call her x

NataliaOsipova · 15/07/2018 08:35

Stella is my favourite from that list. It's unusual but classic. Phoebe or Poppy are perfectly reasonable. The rest not so keen on.

NanaBot · 15/07/2018 08:45

Please, not Daffodil. Love Phoebe, however.

Why don't you use Daffodil as a special family nickname, in the same way you would call your baby 'little bear', for example?

LucyFox · 15/07/2018 08:54

I don’t like daffodil much, but love Amaryllis from your 2nd list!
