Thoughts on name daffodil

Ever since I was a little girl my favorite flowers were daffodils and I really like creative names so I was thinking the name daffodil for my new daughter. What are your honest thoughts? Is it to “out there”? Because daffie would be a really cute nickname but my sister and dad don’t like it that much. Opinions???

Go with Pansy instead....

Potcallingkettle · 15/07/2018 09:01

If it’s the Daffy nickname you like, what about Saffron nn Saffy?

MrsBertBibby · 15/07/2018 09:19

Amaryllis was a shepherdess who stood at her love object's door every night, sticking an arrow into her heart.

DelphiniumBlue · 15/07/2018 09:23

It should work, DAisy,Poppy and Rose etc, but Daffodil just sounds wrong as a name. But Daddy and Fully are both sweet as nicknames. What about Daphne?

Enidblyton1 · 15/07/2018 09:35

If you like flower names, what about Honeysuckle? I know a Honeysuckle, known as Honey a lot of the time, and have always thought it’s a great name.

littlespeckledfrog · 15/07/2018 09:48

I recently met a Daphna. Not sure about Daffodil personally but I don't think unusual names necessarily hold people back in a business context as a PP suggested. I'd think 'Oh, that's unusual' the first time I heard it, but that'd be it.

I like Stella, Poppy, Phoebe.

Cosmoa · 15/07/2018 10:10

I think people might be put off cause they haven't heard it before maybe?

Anyway I think it's lovely Smile

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 15/07/2018 10:17

I don't think Daffodil sounds like a name for a girl.

There are loads of better flower names like:

Rose
Marigold (Goldie for short)
Amaryllis (pronounced Amma-re-leeese)
Magnolia
Daisy
Violet
Dahlia
Jasmine
Poppy
Alyssa
Lilly

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 15/07/2018 10:32

❤️ Stella.

reallyanotherone · 15/07/2018 10:37

Did you mean to spell it Pheobe?

It’s probably not a great name choice if you can’t spell it correctly.

If you did mean to spell it that way, still not a great choice as the poor child will have a lifetime of having to explain/correct spelling and pronunciation.

Itsear · 15/07/2018 10:59

Kids wanted to call guinea pig daffodil but I vetoed as a bit ridiculous...butI do like Dahlia (for a human).

ErrantBakedBean · 15/07/2018 11:48

I like Scout from your new list but not sure it goes with Daffodil as a middle name.

I actually (for maybe an afternoon) considered Dandelion nn Dandy.

haribosmarties · 15/07/2018 11:50

I think its pretty and you get kids called 'Bluebell' etc nowdays so I dont think it will come across as odd

Topseyt · 15/07/2018 13:27

I do like Stella from your second list. It would be the one I might pick.

Phoebe is OK (ish) though not to my taste. If you do use it then please spell it correctly or your child will have a lifetime of explaining themselves over and over again. It is Phoebe, not Pheobe.

Ericho · 15/07/2018 13:44

Stella - really like
Eilidh - really like
Scout - like as a nickname but not as name on birth certificate
Coco(short for Colette) - like Colette
Jami - hate this - it sounds like 'jammy' as in covered in jam. Not good
Eliana - love it
Poppy (short for Penelope) - don't like Penelope or Poppy really
Gracelynn - sounds very American/made up to me. I'd go with Grace.
Pheobe - fine if you spell it Phoebe. The way you've spelt it is wrong.
Amaryllis - bit try-hard
Shay - awful
Adalie - sounds made up. Adeline is fine, so is Amalie, but not Adalie

Terfnserf · 15/07/2018 13:45

I know someone called Jonquille which is a type of daffodil

Heratnumber7 · 15/07/2018 13:54

If it's the flower you like, not the word, how about Jonquil? It's another name fro daffodil.
Or ditto Narcissa.

Wildernessie · 15/07/2018 13:54

Lovely-as long as you like who gives a ...anything flowery is fab..least there wont be10 others in class called the same

BlueEyedBengal · 15/07/2018 13:55

You will leave her open to some very bad name calling in the future. So many more lovely flower names out there but not that one.

pennycarbonara · 15/07/2018 14:39

Not only the daffy duck thing / being daffy, but when I was at school the word 'dill' was a cause for sniggering - it can be short for dildo.

Like:
Eilidh - if in Scotland where most people will be able to spell it
Colette aka Coco
Penelope aka Poppy
Phoebe - spelling

Adalie as a spelling seems to be a new coinage, yet more popular than the correct spelling Adelie according to BabyCenter. But Adelie penguins(and Adalie sounds the same). Not the worst association to have but might feel like a bit of a millstone.

Adeline is a more established human name: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adeline_(given_name)

blackbirdbluebottle · 15/07/2018 14:41

Stella or Phoebe are fine just don’t go too weird else she will spend the rest of her life fed up telling people how to spell her name

Emma765 · 15/07/2018 16:10

Eilidh is my favourite name but it got vetoed for my daughter because we live in England and everyone thought i was saying Hayley but dropping the H because I have a rough accent 🙈We also have an unusual surname and i didn't want her to have to spell her full name all the time. I'd definitely have an Eilidh if in Scotland though.

MariaMadita · 15/07/2018 16:22

How about Daphne? Daisy, Dahlia, Delphine?

I really like Flora, btw.

MariaMadita · 15/07/2018 16:28

Stella: cute
Eilidh: depends on where you live.
Scout: no.
Coco(short for Colette): nice!
Jami: no
Eliana: lovely!
Poppy (short for Penelope): really nice.
Gracelynn: not my cup of tea.
Pheobe: nice!
Amaryllis: cute.
Shay: It's not really my kind of name but I actually really like it!
Adalie: Reminds me of Athalie. I prefer Adeline nn Adalie but Adalie would work as well imo. :)

sparklyllama · 15/07/2018 16:34

I have only read about half of the thread; but how about; Amaryillis; Petal; Blossom.
I think they are beautiful...……...tho just my opinion!
