North?

Ok so we are still coming up with names. We are in our 2nd trimester now so we've still got a while to finalize our choices.

A name we've found that we like too is North. Just to be clear, absolutely no connection to Kim Kardashian whatsoever. Can't personally stand her, but I really like the name and the nn 'Nori'.

Would love to hear your opinions if that's alright :)

Even the same nn

I cringe on your behalf

slovenlys · 27/06/2018 07:38

How about Nour? Pronounced Nor so you can call baby Nori?

I'm on the 'it's ridiculous' camp I'm afraid. And you can't claim it's nothing to do with KKW Just because you're not a fan of her.

Aprilshouldhavebeenmyname · 27/06/2018 07:42

Alternatives are
South
East
West
Crack on.
Poor kid.

Jennarotersy · 27/06/2018 07:43

I wouldn't have associated it with the kardashians because I know bugger all about them, and I quite like it. However I can see the point that everyone else will whole DC is a child. Are the kardashians going to still be well known in a decades time? I wouldn't like to be named after seaweed though. And given how cruel kids can be, possible opening up lines for bullying 'fishface' 'fishy' etc? But having said that kids manage to find something to pick on no matter what.

Wolfiefan · 27/06/2018 07:45

It's not a name. It's a point on the compass. Why would you?

AsAProfessionalFekko · 27/06/2018 07:47

In London it would be pronounced Norf (or 'you what???')

SuburbanRhonda · 27/06/2018 07:48

I think it’s pretty and classy

You think the word “North” is pretty?

You’re funny.

purplemunkey · 27/06/2018 07:50

I think the 'its not a name' comments are a bit silly. Lots of names are similar. Rosemary is a herb. Daisy is a flower etc. I just think the Kardashian association is top strong.

DwangelaForever · 27/06/2018 07:51

I follow a mum on insta and her baby is called north and I love the name, it suits her and this mum isn't a kardashaholic! I would say go for it, it's your child, never worry what some haters on the Internet say!

TeddyIsaHe · 27/06/2018 07:54

I would say go for it, it’s your child, never worry what some haters on the internet say!

Pretty sure you wouldn’t have that same attitude if you were named North though..

DwangelaForever · 27/06/2018 07:56

I'd rather call my child North than half the crappy up themselves name that mums on these forums come up with!!

Persephone
Ophelia
Xanthe

Pretentious as fuck. Grin

thereareflowersinmygarden · 27/06/2018 08:01

'Haters' like people reading their CV in twenty years time, who cares what they think, ay?

ShovingLeopard · 27/06/2018 08:07

You mean those classical, stood-the-test-of-time names, Dwangela?!

Confused Grin

SemperIdem · 27/06/2018 08:07

Saying North as a given name is “nothing to do with the Kardashians” would have been a bit like parents in the 1970’s insisting calling their daughter Moon Unit was “nothing to do with Frank Zappa”.

LoveInTokyo · 27/06/2018 08:21

Ridiculous. Not a name. Everyone will think of the Kardashians.

Wildlingofthewest · 27/06/2018 08:25

Awful

Don’t give your child this silly name!

shiklah · 27/06/2018 08:32

It’s up to you what you call you baby but if you call her north everyone will assume you are a huge Kim Kardashian or Kanye fan.

I teach a Suri and have taught a Brooklyn, both times the parents have told me with great emphasis that they are not a fan of tom cruise/the beckhams - it was very odd!

TatianaLarina · 27/06/2018 08:34

Sorry I just don’t believe you’d have come up with North as a name without KK.

Even if you don’t like her you’re still copying her.

And yes Nori is seaweed.

PremierNaps · 27/06/2018 08:40

But you must like Kim Kardashian because her daughter is called North and she uses the nickname Nori for her. 🤔

SlimGin · 27/06/2018 08:51

I like it. It does remind me of KK but I imagine your surname isn't West, which is the main reason why North West sounds silly, in my opinion.

Also, eventually, people will stop associating her with the kardashians. As PP said before me, she knew a girl called Suri and thought of Tom Cruise's daughter. But I read Suri and got absolutely no connections with Tom cruise as I'd forgotten all about her!

ErrantBakedBean · 27/06/2018 08:53

I like it. Also ALL names are made up or taken from words, which were themselves made up at some point. (Would love to see people however many hundreds of years ago saying 'Victoria?! Like victorious?! How daft'). You will have to put up with people assuming the Kardashian link though.

IdLikeABiscuitPlease · 27/06/2018 09:21

I wouldn't personally.

I specifically gave my DS his name so it was 1 easy to spell & 2. Wouldn't hinder him in terms of school and career.

bellinisurge · 27/06/2018 09:22

Totally sounds like a Kardashian wannabe name. My late father was given the name of pre WWI music hall star. Who nobody remembers now. Will you be able to say the same for your baby? Stick to Nori. That's ok.

sockunicorn · 27/06/2018 09:24

i love the name north but i couldnt name a child it after the kardashians ruined used it

RedDwarves · 27/06/2018 09:27

The sort of "name" you can only get away with if you're a celebrity.
