Baby girl a sister for Elspeth

DD2 was born yesterday but has no name yet.

So far we’re considering the following
Isobel
Michaela
Serena

Middle name will be Ruth. I also like Agatha but our surname sounds a bit like Christie so we ruled that out.

DH likes Michaela best but I prefer Isobel. Am I just asking for a lifetime of spelling variations? Is Michaela unspeakably naff? Help!!!!

I really like Isobel and serena but not michaela - sorry! I think michaela sounds too 80s and I’m not keen on Micky as a nn.

Love Ruth as a mn

When I saw your post I immediately thought of Iona and Fiona for some reason!

Naberes · 06/05/2018 19:36

Isobel is lovely but Isobel and Elspeth are actually variants (admittedly far removed) of the name name: Elizabeth.

I don’t like Michaela at all, I’m afraid. Serena is pretty. How about Selene, Sabina, Celia..?

Naberes · 06/05/2018 19:37

SAME name

Onceuponatimethen · 06/05/2018 19:38

Good point Naberes about Isobel and Elspeth

Sophronia · 06/05/2018 19:39

Congrats! Michaela is quite nice. I personally wouldn’t use Isobel if you already have an Elspeth (both are versions of Elizabeth).

How about...

Selina
Agnes
Beatrice
Anna
Frances
Audrey
Georgina
Annabel
Clara
Helena
Cecilia
Dorothy
Flora
Julia
Caroline
Louisa
Susannah
Marianne
Philippa
Rosamund
Sylvia
Tabitha
Vivienne

Serena is my favourite. Isobel is nice too but wouldn't use with Elspeth as they come from the same name.

Elspeth and...

Clara
Catriona
Jasmine
Georgia
Sara
Veronica
Iona
Rebecca
Larissa
Nina
Harriet
Talia
Aurora
Lorna
Marnie

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 06/05/2018 19:42

Isobel and Serena are both pretty - Michaela (since you mention it) does seem a bit naff to me.

I like Cecily as a little sister for Elspeth. Or Bridget?

NoCureForLove · 06/05/2018 19:45

Iona
Catriona
Seraphina
Penelope
Stella
Calypso
Dorcas
Nina
Anna
Lavinia
Lydia
Valentina

Auntyirene · 06/05/2018 19:46

I like Serena

What about Verity?

minniemouseears · 06/05/2018 19:46

Imogen
Florence
Harriet
Darcy
Rebecca

pinkcarpet · 06/05/2018 19:47

Thanks I didn’t know Isobel was derived from Elizabeth!

I like Iona and Annabel although both very well used in our area. Also like Georgina but DH vetoed that a while ago sadly

DH has now suggested Arabella. I quite like that too but is it too frilly compared to Elspeth?

You are conjuring images of 1930s Christie now..
What about Constance or Daphne?

userabcname · 06/05/2018 19:47

Serena is lovely

duplodancer · 06/05/2018 19:50

Serena is gorgeous.
Think Arabella works too.

pinkcarpet · 06/05/2018 19:51

Serena we both agree on and although it’s kind of a compromise I’m glad lots of you like it too.

We considered Daphne but it doesn’t work with our surname

borntobequiet · 06/05/2018 19:53

Ishbel

Onceuponatimethen · 06/05/2018 19:56

I think Arabella is more flouncy and ornamental and not in the same category as Elspeth

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/05/2018 19:57

I love Michaela.

Other ideas as well
Elspeth and.
Victoria. Sarah. Lydia. Francine. Margo.
Vivienne. Alexandra. Claudia. Dorothy.
Maude. Juliette. Antoinette. Amanda
Harriet. Martha. Cecelia.

Peach1886 · 06/05/2018 19:57

Alice

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/05/2018 19:58

Isolde. Isadora. Winifred. Suzannah

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 06/05/2018 20:08

I like Arabella. Before I read your last post OP, I read Elspeth and immediately thought Cecilia or Olivia, so it seems names that end in A go well?

Ginger1982 · 06/05/2018 20:10

I like Serena. I don't know why but I always pair names in my head in the voice of Craig Cash from Gogglebox. 'Sisters Elspeth and Serena...' Sounds good in my head!! 😆

daisypond · 06/05/2018 20:12

As pp have said, Isobel and Elspeth are effectively the same name. Not sure about Michaela. I like Serena a lot. Arabella does seem flouncy compared to Elspeth.
Marian/Marianne.
Marjorie.
Selena.
Audrey

DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 06/05/2018 20:37

My first thought was Flora. I love Isobel, but agree it is too similar to Elspeth.

Whatalovelymug · 06/05/2018 20:44

I have an Elspeth, sister to Iris.

I also love Agatha!

Agnes
Tabitha
Beatrice
Constance
Verity
Cecelia
Sybil
Were also on the list.
