DD2 was born yesterday but has no name yet.

So far we’re considering the following
Isobel
Michaela
Serena

Middle name will be Ruth. I also like Agatha but our surname sounds a bit like Christie so we ruled that out.

DH likes Michaela best but I prefer Isobel. Am I just asking for a lifetime of spelling variations? Is Michaela unspeakably naff? Help!!!!

Greta, Marnie, Blythe

Margot is lovely though, was on my list

Lottie

Carys was my thought on seeing your thread title.
But Serena is lovely and Margot (I'd spell it like that as it's French) goes with the general trend of WW1-2 era names but is much less common than most, it's goes beautifully with Elspeth too.
Congratulations on your daughter's birth Flowers

Esme.

I like Isobel the best; didn’t realize it was a variant of the same name as Elspeth. But I don’t think either Serena or Michaela “go” with Elspeth as a sibling name.

Why not stick with Scottish names:

Ailsa
Morag
Isla
Ishbel
Murran
Fiona
Shuna
Lorna
Rhona
Morna

I like Isobel. It's a cute and unique name for your dd.

Copperbonnet · 11/05/2018 04:22

Isobel is a great name Grace but it’s hardly “unique”. It’s pretty common.

Onceuponatimethen · 11/05/2018 06:03

Depends on your area Copper. I only know one under ten where I live

Onceuponatimethen · 11/05/2018 06:05

Loving Margot Ruth - super name and congrats on baby being here Flowers

TeeBee · 11/05/2018 06:15

Sorry, I don't like Margo (reminds me of The Good Life). How about Marta?

Onceuponatimethen · 11/05/2018 06:24

Tee ooh that’s exactly why I do like it and isn’t there also a Chalet School Margot?

What’s not to love? Smile

Thanks everyone we went with Margot Ruth. We live in Scotland but my side of the family is from England/France so a French name works for us as well as a Scottish one.

Elspeth& Margot are beautiful names and super cute! Congratulations! Flowers

17caterpillars we’ve generally had a positive reaction to Elspeth although a few people thought it was an unusual name for a baby.

Now she’s 4 it suits her perfectly and we’ve never shortened it. In her nursery class and at various preschool activities she’s the only Elspeth but there are loads of Ella/Elsa/Elsie/Evie type names. I’m sure she’ll get a nickname once she’s at school but I like using her full name
