Baby girl a sister for Elspeth

DD2 was born yesterday but has no name yet.

So far we’re considering the following
Isobel
Michaela
Serena

Middle name will be Ruth. I also like Agatha but our surname sounds a bit like Christie so we ruled that out.

DH likes Michaela best but I prefer Isobel. Am I just asking for a lifetime of spelling variations? Is Michaela unspeakably naff? Help!!!!

Isobel goes best

Catriona, Isobel or Isabel/la, Serena, Annabel, Arabella are really pretty in my opinion.

I love the name Elspeth but hate the name Michaela and I don't think the two go together at all.

Aylarose · 06/05/2018 21:14

Oh also the fact that 'Elspeth' and 'Isobel' derive from the same meaning and from the name 'Elisheba' (which Elizabeth also stems from); really does not matter at all. They are different names and they go well together!

I know an Elspeth and her sisters are Kirsten and Catriona

Isobel is lovely. I'm not keen on Michaela, personally.

If you like Serena, how about Seren?

Or Morven? I think that goes perfectly with Elspeth!

Ishbel
Esme
Nicola or Erica are a similar name type as Michaela and maybe a bit less clunky?

If you like Agatha…

Agnes

Letitia
Delphine

Flora is the sister of Elspeth that I know.

CrispsForTea · 06/05/2018 22:15

I know from experience that, if you call her Michaela, the poor girl will spend her life correcting people on the pronunciation and telling people how to spell it.

Serena

Elspeth and Morven sound lovely together.

Loving Flora - I think that is the perfect pair for Elspeth. A touch of home spun, Scots, vintage and a gorgeous name that is cool, classical and pretty unusual.

Verity!

Lydia

Elspeth and Lydia.

I love your middle name of Ruth!

Schoolconfusionbath · 06/05/2018 22:55

I have Elspeth & Margaret( Meg!)

pinkcarpet · 07/05/2018 06:43

Thanks some really lovely suggestions there. Flora is great but doesn’t go with our surname (wish it did!)

Margaret and Catriona also but both family members names already and Iris was used by one of my best friends for her 6mo so they’re taken.

Serena is the front runner at the moment!

Don't like Michaela, and although I prefer your spelling of Isobel, you will have you spell it out a lot if that bothers you. I like Serena :)

IVflytrap · 07/05/2018 08:04

I actually really like Michaela. It's unusual these days. Serena is nice too.
