How do you pronounce Saoirse?

Sur-sha or sear-sha?

I prefer the first but not if it isn't correct hmm.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 12/04/2018 19:42

😂

angryburd · 12/04/2018 19:45

Take note of this thread, OP. Don't saddle your child with a name no one can pronounce!

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 12/04/2018 19:50

[ ]

MayFayner · 12/04/2018 19:59

Yeah.... Grin

Some people pronounce saw-ra-ka
Others it's more surra-ka

Except the "ka" sound is more "kha"

But I'm trying to keep it simple Grin

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 12/04/2018 19:59

😂😂😂

MayFayner · 12/04/2018 20:00

^ sorry that was to twer

MarthaArthur · 12/04/2018 20:01

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 12/04/2018 20:01

That was for the YouTube clip! Worcestshire always catches me out too.

I had a Sorcha in my class at school. She was sorsha but she (and the rest of our class) let our English teacher call her Sorka for 3 years before subtley correcting her Grin

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 12/04/2018 20:02

Loughborough always gets me too Grin

MarthaArthur · 12/04/2018 20:04

Either way op its a beautiful name but i dont think i can pronounce it so people might struggle

MarthaArthur · 12/04/2018 20:06

I have trouble with lots of pronunciation. My dsis pronounces so many things wrong worcestshire is one. I asked how she would prounounce saorise and she didnt even want to hazzard a guess.

TellOutMySoul · 12/04/2018 20:12

Cockmagic · 12/04/2018 20:15

Ah right, sorry I just can't get my head round it. Took me ages to figure out Niamh too !

MarthaArthur · 12/04/2018 20:19

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 12/04/2018 20:19

😂

llangennith · 12/04/2018 21:59

I thought it was Saw-sher

AtlantaGinandTonic · 12/04/2018 22:24

My DDs were obsessed with the film 'Song of the Sea' for a while. I've based my pronunciation on that, which was 'Seer-sha'.

desperatehousewife2 · 12/04/2018 23:30

I’m Irish, living in Ireland and any of the Saoirses I know pronounce it ‘Seersha’

pastabakewithcheese · 12/04/2018 23:38

😍😍 that's how

Corcra · 12/04/2018 23:41

Seersha is how it should be pronounced isn't it.
