Baby girl name Nancy

Everyone hates the name but I love it, what do you all think?

MissWilmottsGhost · 16/12/2017 16:00

I like it.

One of the most important things I have learned from reading MN is NEVER REVEAL THE CHOSEN NAME OF YOUR BABY BEFORE THE BIRTH Grin

cloudyweewee · 16/12/2017 16:02

I love the name Nancy.

YellowMakesMeSmile · 16/12/2017 16:02

Fine for when she's retiring but not for a baby or school child as it's very old fashioned. You also need to agree on a name, unfair to just decide on it knowing the other parent doesn't like it.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 16/12/2017 16:04

I love Nancy, it’s a classic pretty name

ACertainRatio · 16/12/2017 16:04

It was on my list! Had two DSes though...

Piggywaspushed · 16/12/2017 16:06

insert it really isn't. Nancy is a diminutive of Anne.

NinonDeLenclos · 16/12/2017 16:06

Love it. Used it as a middle name for my DD.

Lorelai is godawful.

MonumentalAlabaster · 16/12/2017 16:09

And of course there's also poor Nancy violently murdered in Dickens' novel "Oliver Twist"!

NinonDeLenclos · 16/12/2017 16:11

I think it will become fashionable again

It's already fashionable again. But not so fashionable that it's everywhere like Sienna.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 16/12/2017 16:13

My total, all time favourite name!!!! Absolutely love it. We came to using it for DD2 but switched at the last minute. I still think it would really suit her!!

Nancy is literally the perfect name, to me.

MothQuandary · 16/12/2017 16:15

My grandmother was called Nancy. She was a terribly posh, tough as old boots and rather terrifying. I think it’s a great name!

Sienna is perfectly nice but it’s just a bit meh in my opinion. But of course your DH’s opinion matters too. I had to accept a name I wasn’t 100% keen on for DD because DP vetoed the ones I loved.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 16/12/2017 16:19

Love Nancy.

DramaAlpaca · 16/12/2017 16:20

I don't like the name Nancy at all, sorry.

It's a million miles better than Lorelai though.

I do like Sienna.

RestingGrinchFace · 16/12/2017 16:21

It wouldn't be my first choice but I see absolutely nothing wrong with it. I think it's a good name.

Xmasbaby11 · 16/12/2017 16:24

I don't like it but then I don't like old fashioned names generally.

Just choose a name you and dh love. Everyone will learn to love the name regardless, as they associate it with your dc.

yikesanotherbooboo · 16/12/2017 16:29

I love Nancy and din't really understand why one wouldn't as said before Swallows and Amazons etc. It has a fresh feel now but is not unusual as such and everyone can spell and pronounce it.

Talith · 16/12/2017 16:32

I don't love it but wouldn't say I hate it. Everyone will have an opinion so please yourself Grin

NinonDeLenclos · 16/12/2017 16:37

At the very least it's not:

Ella/Ellie/Elle/Ava/Evie/Grace/Olivia/Lily/Emma/Sophie/Mia/Bella

SparkleFizz · 16/12/2017 17:02

It’s not a name I like personally, but there’s nothing wrong with it.

It’s been rising a lot in popularity over recent years as well, so there’s plenty of other parents out there who love the name.

BelfortGabbz · 16/12/2017 17:34

I wonder how many pp who LOVE Nancy would actually use it when it came to the crunch?
I think it's a hard name to carry through life, though quite pleasant.

Shesaysso · 16/12/2017 17:44

I think it's one of those names that's pronounced differently depending on your regional accent which would put me off - I'd pronounce it Nancy with a short a sound (North) , but I think it may also get pronounced with a long a sound so Narncy

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 16/12/2017 17:46

I actually think it would be easy as it's consistently pronounced Nancy with a short vowel I believe.

DD3 would definitely be Nancy!

WunWun · 16/12/2017 17:46

I don't think it would be pronounced Narncy anywhere!

LoveInTokyo · 16/12/2017 17:49

I like Nancy.

The only reason I wouldn't use it is because I live in France and Nancy is a town here so it would be like calling your kid Nottingham or something, lol.

NataliaOsipova · 16/12/2017 17:50

Yes, David Cameron's older daughter is Nancy.

I think it's absolutely fine. Classic name; not vastly trendy but not totally outré.
