Naming DC after animal?

TempStamos · 16/10/2017 17:16

Ttc, not pregnant yet. All my DC have unusual names and DP and I are wanting to name the next after an animal eg Fox, Puma, Bear.

Does anyone have ideas for animal names that could be used for both boys and girls?
Or do you think we are mad and that naming children after animals is tacky?

Jemima=dove

MikeUniformMike · 16/10/2017 22:23

PP's suggestion of Ring Tailed Lemur sounds good.
Sloth might not be so good.
Many people call their children and grandchildren Cheeky Monkey.

BewareOfDragons · 16/10/2017 22:24

Torbjörn is old Norse for Thunder Bear. :)

TempStamos · 16/10/2017 22:25

@FenellaMaxwellsPony

Ah! Nope its actually Beverly Dasher Reign (Mainly after Santas reindeer as he was born on Christmas Day). But he likes Beverly Dash Reign (I think he just dosnt like Dasher, enjoys the joke that people write Beverly - Reign and also likes to prentend he was named after the Kardashians) and his nicknames always been Dash.

Don't like Bear, it's quite common anyway.
Tiger is ok but again not that unusual.
Puma sounds awful.
Leopard I like, lynx, panther etc.
Penguin, giraffe with raff for short is also ok.

Vegangelist · 16/10/2017 22:35

Wowsers at the middles! Love them!!! I really wanted three middles for mine but husband comes from a family of no middle names so even one felt like a stretch for him. Wish I'd pushed a bit harder now!

Vegangelist · 16/10/2017 22:36

Carousel, not sure, it's what came up when I Googled it.

Weedsnseeds1 · 16/10/2017 23:46

Vixen
Reynard
Brock
Merlin
Kestrel (Kes)
Wolverine
Cobra
Asp
Foal
Linnet
Merino
Stoat
Hare
Pike
Or Tit as a middle name, then you could have Blue Tit, Coal Tit...

BertrandRussell · 16/10/2017 23:52

Puma is a brand name. You really can't use that.

And Bunny and Kitty for a girl and Wolf and Tiger for a boy. Really? Hmm

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 17/10/2017 07:59

I was going to suggest Kestrel for a boy

PollyBanana · 17/10/2017 08:22

Angus for a boy?
It's a breed of cattle

Tealdeal747 · 17/10/2017 08:38

Pussy

PinkFlamingo888 · 17/10/2017 09:25

Ooh what about Ocelot? I think that’s pretty cool and not too obvious an animal like Dog. Please don’t call him Bear though if you already have a teddy!

thethoughtfox · 17/10/2017 09:35

All the suggestions here are fab. Just don't do Bear. Everyone will think that awful reality person and Cheryl Cole's baby.

FizzyGreenWater · 17/10/2017 10:09

After seeing your other names, I'd go for Tabitha Wolf Peony for a girl and Orson Phoenix Kit for a boy.

PhelanGood · 17/10/2017 17:38

I used to work with a stunning Arabic woman called Ghazala which meant gazelle I think! I adore the name Bear but not next to Payne a la Cheryl and Liam. Bear Payne?! What planet are they on

PhelanGood · 17/10/2017 17:39

Oh my god Tabitha Wolf Peony is fierce as fuck. I'm off down deed poll!

ArcheryAnnie · 17/10/2017 17:43

Finch is lovely.

Veterinari · 18/10/2017 04:16

I know a Torbjörn - he anglicised to Torben as no one could pronounce it. Nice name tho.

Also:
Brock (badger)
Tod (fox)
Bruin/Bruno (bear)
Kestrel
Peregrine
Wolf/wulfric
Lupus/lupin (wolf)

Clitoria · 20/10/2017 00:38

Your kid has a star in the letter i in her name?
You already have six kids?
With three fucking mad names each?
Hmm

fuzzywuzzy · 20/10/2017 00:47

I think you should call a DS Lion-O and a DS and a DD Cheetara.

HappyLollipop · 20/10/2017 00:54

Jaguar, Leo, Tiger. I think big cats are the best so if I was to name my kid after any animal it would be one of them but Bear and Wolf/ Wolfgang are pretty cool too. Why did you use Dutchess twice as a middle name though?!

IsThisTheRealYou · 20/10/2017 01:03

Are you based in the U.K.?

If so then naming your son Beverly was a bold move. As was using 'Dasher'. Also it's funny you chose Dutchess twice 😂

I'm curious why you are asking MN for suggestions. It sounds like you don't have too much of a problem finding unusual names.

I'm guessing the star over the i thing is a jokey thing. I used to do it myself.

EKLInTraining · 20/10/2017 01:30

I like Kestrel! Also what about breeds of animals? eg Saluki.

Tealdeal747 · 20/10/2017 07:43

Tabby
Corgi
Palmino
Shire
Manx
