Naming DC after animal?

146 replies

TempStamos · 16/10/2017 17:16

Ttc, not pregnant yet. All my DC have unusual names and DP and I are wanting to name the next after an animal eg Fox, Puma, Bear.

Does anyone have ideas for animal names that could be used for both boys and girls?
Or do you think we are mad and that naming children after animals is tacky?

Eagle?

TempStamos · 16/10/2017 18:20

@Awwlookatmybabyspider

Oh, I didnt even think of Puma as the brand! But I do have a Harley.

@Vegangelist

At the moment we want it to be obvious it is an animal name, and not just a word that means/ suggests an animal
I do like Birdie though!

Absolutely love animal names. Otter is lovely, and I'm also a big fan of Fox and Bear.

RoryItsSnowing · 16/10/2017 18:23

Oh and Wolf too, great middle name.

TempStamos · 16/10/2017 18:24

@Vegangelist

Dakota (f), Harley (m), Missy (f), Beverly (m), Teddy (m) and Mila (f)

@Stringofpearls

Eagle could be a possibility!

@RoryItsSnowing

Thank-you! Hadnt thought of Otter, Am thinking maybe we should use an animal name as a middle name.

Just discovered Katie Price's daughter is called Bunny and Liam Payne +Cheryl Coles son is Bear.

Not sure if this changes my opinions on the names? I want them to be unusual and not seem like they are names after celebrities children.

Ursula for a girl instead?

ForeverLivingMyArse · 16/10/2017 19:10

Are you familiar with Johnny Cash?

I was going to post A Boy Named Sue before you posted your kids names.

Seriously, interesting and quirky they might be but it gets boring and irritating very quickly having to explain your name your whole life.

Take it from an ex Sunshine.

TempStamos · 16/10/2017 19:10

@strawberrypenguin

Ursula remind me of the villian in the little mermaid too much.

@ForeverLivingMyArse

My eldest is 22, next is 14 and they have no problem with their names. All of my children have 2 middle and dozens of shortening possibilities/nicknames but they have all pretty mcuh stuck with always wanted to be called by their full first name. I would be fine If any of my children wanted to change to a shortening/ middle name or even if they wanted to change their whole name completely. They enjoy having unusual names, it makes them more individual.

Ah it makes me think of a series of books I loved as a child about a girl who could turn into a bear. But I see why you wouldn’t use it it The little Mermaid is your association (I’d forgotten about that)

What about Tabitha nn Tabby?

There are lots of girls names actually! Boys are harder with animals I think.

TempStamos · 16/10/2017 19:24

I like Tabby! Yes we are stuggleing with boys names, but have loads for girls (am secretly hoping for another girl though)

I know a few Bear's and Fox's.

For girls:
Wren
Robin/Robyn
Raven
Cat
Sable

Boys:

Cub (I met a Cub once, I actually like it)
Kit
Hawk
Joey

Mrsknackered · 16/10/2017 19:29

Posted too soon, there were kids on a Louis Theroux called Lynx and Lamb. Think they were nazi's though, so I'd stay away.

Orson means bear cub.

TempStamos · 16/10/2017 19:29

@Mrsknackered

Not so fond of bird names, I dont know why!

I like Cub and Kit for a boy but prefer longer names that can be shortened.
