Naming DC after animal?

146 replies

TempStamos · 16/10/2017 17:16

Ttc, not pregnant yet. All my DC have unusual names and DP and I are wanting to name the next after an animal eg Fox, Puma, Bear.

Does anyone have ideas for animal names that could be used for both boys and girls?
Or do you think we are mad and that naming children after animals is tacky?

Phoenix is pretty fabulous, and unisex.

Yika · 16/10/2017 20:25

I know a Jaguar (boy) if that appeals?

FoxSticks · 16/10/2017 20:26

I think there are a few celeb kids called Wolf. We've recently welcomed a baby wolf into our extended family. It gets an interesting reaction. I just think it's such a big name for a child to live up to. What if Wolf grows up to be more puppy like? The problem with animal names is the characteristics associated with them and how that affects people's expectations/perception of you.

@Quokka12

Aww, that is a very cute idea.

Ursula/Arthur/Orson/Bjorn
Llew short for Llywelyn (only if you can speak welsh - the Ll is almost impossible otherwise)
Bleddyn (pron Blethin - th as in this, that, the not thing)
Todd/Fox
Bronwen

On the fish theme (even if it was a joke), how about Dory?

TempStamos · 16/10/2017 20:32

@Vegangelist

Dakota Dutchess Day, Beverly Dash Reign, Missy May Princess, Harley Jett King, Teddy Grey Roscoe, Mila Dutchess Rose.

Can already feel the judgement, but they all love their names.

@Yika

Jaguar could be an option!

@FoxSticks

I love wolf! Yes i get the idea of connotations, but is it much different than naming a less attractive child Bella? (Yes i know all children are beautiful...). I also think that chidlren kind of grow into their names in most cases.

Dutchess? Fan of Fergie then?!

MikeUniformMike · 16/10/2017 20:56

Jay Cub

MikeUniformMike · 16/10/2017 20:56

Jay-Kub?

MikeUniformMike · 16/10/2017 20:57

Maybe Kub will be the name of the Rooney baby

TempStamos · 16/10/2017 20:57

@ChickensGoBoak

Haha! Auto correct/ mispelling, it is spelt Duchess and she was named before the fergie album! Though she did used to love her when she was younger.

RoseAndRose · 16/10/2017 20:58

Bjorn?

Launderetta · 16/10/2017 20:58

My DD (10) suggested Noah as he had all the animals on his ark. Genius!!

TempStamos · 16/10/2017 20:59

@MikeUniformMike

Cub is a good idea!

TempStamos · 16/10/2017 21:01

@RoseAndRose

Maybe, but i think i prefer it to be english and obvious to other what it means.

@Launderetta

Aw Bless, that was a clever suggestion!

I've just read the first page of posts. I really like animal names too. I like all the ones you listed, except Puma. Puma just doesn't seem like it could be a name IMO.

TempStamos · 16/10/2017 21:04

@CuckooClockChimes

Yeah, we have scrapped Puma now.

MikeUniformMike · 16/10/2017 21:09

Lupo?

Cub would be quite sweet as a nickname

Carouselfish · 16/10/2017 21:51

Channing means young wolf? What language is that vegan? Always just thought it was one of those awful surname names.

GinIsIn · 16/10/2017 22:05

Please tell me you spell it Beverly - Reign.... Grin

MikeUniformMike · 16/10/2017 22:08

How about Ferret?

GinIsIn · 16/10/2017 22:09
