Thank you ☺️

Growing up I knew a black Labrador called Falcon. He drooled and shook his head from side to side releasing the drool. He nicked my cousin's knickers from her washing basket so the name Falcon is a no for me for a human or animal.

Fairenuff · 02/07/2017 09:08

Bird names aren't unusual. Robin, Phoenix, Merlin or Jay, for example. It's just that Falcon is so harsh and ugly sounding imo.

upperlimit · 02/07/2017 09:11

The only Falcon I know is the ITV Gladiator circa 1990 and she was a girl with a fabulous mullet.

I'd go with Forest.

DearMrDilkington · 02/07/2017 09:18

'Falcon, I'm going to give you until I count to five to leave the park..'

It sounds ridiculous. Forest is probably the better option, unless your last name is gump.

WowserBowser · 02/07/2017 09:19

I've actually warmed to Forest whilst reading the thread. I think mainly because of what Tobean said.

Falcon just sounds too harsh

harderandharder2breathe · 02/07/2017 09:35

Neither, they're both awful (so are Montgomery and Willoghby) very much "try hard" names although so is Blue so at least your DC names will go together

Forrest is the least worst of the two

Epipgab · 02/07/2017 10:51

Falcon

TheSeaTheSkyTheSeaTheSkyyyyyy · 02/07/2017 12:22

Forest, but I prefer the double R spelling personally. Looks more name-like and less tree-like.

Oldgranny · 02/07/2017 14:03

Unicorn and Satyr? you

Oldgranny · 02/07/2017 14:04

Grinmissfoxy

sexcauldron · 02/07/2017 14:07

What is with this trend of choosing random nouns for kids names? It's like a contest of who can be the most progressive, but really people will just ask "were your parents on crack?"

Go on, call your kid Forest and enjoy years and years of "RUN FOREST RUN"

Call him Falcon and you can pretend he's on Gladiators.

HoratioNightboy · 02/07/2017 14:37

It is possible to express your opinion of a name without being a vicious or sarcastic bitch you know, folks... Hmm

I rather like Forest, and it is an attested name, being in use in the 18th and 19th centuries. I have a few in my family tree, both Forest and Forrest, and even a couple of girls named Forrestina! Not come across a Falcon anywhere but, as with every single other name in existence, someone has to be the first. Follow your heart, OP.

mondler · 02/07/2017 18:34

Out of the two I'd go for Forest. Would you use a middle name with it?

Lilmy3 · 02/07/2017 19:38

I think Forest would be nice with a strong, classic middle name. Like Forest James/John/Joseph/Christopher/Nicholas

reuset · 02/07/2017 20:35

These are used as names so a bit pointless suggesting names that are never used to take the piss.

Cliff is used, OP, and so are a couple of the other names suggested Wink

Why do you like Falcon and Forest, OP? Where's your inspiration from suspects Children's Nature Encyclopedia

reuset · 02/07/2017 20:40

Orange is also an 'attested' name, being used in C19. Doesn't make it a good choice Grin

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 02/07/2017 20:50

Could be worse i suppose, my best friend overheard a little boy recently being screeched at by his mum " Ferrari " oh dear god.

Poor kids when they start school.

There's a woman at DS1's school who has an angelic, blond ringletted toddler. His name is Diesel.

Plaintalkin · 02/07/2017 20:59

No - awful

FatLittleWombat · 02/07/2017 21:07

But won't he be saddled with 'Run, Forest, run'?

I doubt kids born in 2017 will be watching Forest Gump. It's an old film.

I'd go with Forest. I don't like the sound of the word Falcon, quite apart from the fact that it's a whacky choice for a name.

Squishedstrawberry4 · 02/07/2017 21:12

Forest. I also love ke Phoenix

TheDowagerCuntess · 02/07/2017 21:14

My other son is named Blue, so I am not alien to the idea of people not liking the names we pick!

Then why are you so surprised by the reaction you're having to this thread? At least these are potential names that you're getting brutally honest opinions on, not already-given names.

Im assuming you must be very new to Mumsnet, not to have foreseen this. Wink

elQuintoConyo · 02/07/2017 21:41

You could use Peregrine as a middle name, just as an option if he chose to change it in later life.

user1471547428 · 02/07/2017 21:52

I really like Forest but not Falcon.

MikeUniformMike · 02/07/2017 22:57

Of the two, Falcon but poor kid might get called Fallus. Forrest was good enough for Mr Mars, but will be associated with Gump. Up to you. Forest - prefer the 2 rs.

reuset · 03/07/2017 07:22

You could use Peregrine as a middle name, just as an option if he chose to change it in later life.

With first name Falcon, so Falcon Peregrine Grin
