Is it ok as a middle name?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
originalbiglymavis · 23/04/2017 10:55

Well if you are going with a theme then go with it but no child will thank you for 'Teddy Bear'.

moonlightmile · 23/04/2017 11:02

Wolf is better than Bear imo.

Rockaby · 23/04/2017 11:02

You have had some very harsh comments on here OP, which are not necessary at all.

LoveDeathPrizes · 23/04/2017 11:04

Can you shout it with pride across a playground? Could you in all good conscience give his full name to a doctor without wincing? Forever? Can you refrain from feeling upset when other adults raise their eyebrows? If so, then do it. And hope he'll be as resilliant.

PS: Theodore is beautiful. And Jude Raven is so cool that Teddy Bear will forever feel completely inferior.

Rockaby · 23/04/2017 11:05

Actually though, nobody has called you a fucking idiot have they..? Unless I'm missing it! That would be so rude and a personal attack to boot!

I do think some of the posts could have been worded a bit more kindly though.

HenryandJude · 23/04/2017 11:08

Oh sorry, "don't be fucking stupid" Hmm

OP posts:
MyBeloved · 23/04/2017 11:11

No. It's cruel.

Empireoftheclouds · 23/04/2017 11:13

Well it is fucking stupid

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 23/04/2017 11:15

I like it.
But I do understand why some people think it's awful.

What about names meaning bear? Oberon or Bern? However, if it's a middle name? Why not?

Jude Raven and Theodore Bear. It's fine (imo...)

btw, I personally admittedly don't really like Theodore....

wilkos · 23/04/2017 11:19

Wolf is very self consciously 'we are such super cool and original parents'

Except nowadays choosing a name like that shows you're really not 😁

Sorry

wilkos · 23/04/2017 11:20

Likewise Bear...

BillyButtfuck · 23/04/2017 11:20

I know a Rafferty Bear which I think is nice, Theodore Bear may be a little too twee?

Xmasbaby11 · 23/04/2017 11:24

Theodore Bear? Sorry, not keen. A simpler first name would be better if you have an unusual middle name.

Also, isn't that shortened to Teddy sometimes? That would be beyond twee and I don't think a child would appreciate it.

HenryandJude · 23/04/2017 11:32

Other choice was Tobias Bear.

OP posts:
Rockaby · 23/04/2017 11:36

I really like Tobias Bear. I prefer Tobias to Theodore anyway, regardless of the Teddy thing though.

GinIsIn · 23/04/2017 11:43

Tobias Bear is nice.

SuperSix77 · 23/04/2017 11:54

Tobias Bear - yes. Definitely. Love Jude Raven too. Don't worry about some previous posters OP - I've only just signed up a few days ago but think I'll delete as people on here can be incredibly judgey & unnecessarily rude. Go with what you love. F**k the haters!

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 23/04/2017 12:07

Tobias Bear is awesome!

gigi556 · 23/04/2017 12:09

Seriously?! Theodore Bear.... ie Teddy Bear. Absolutely not. Btw, my dad's dog is called Bear...

HeyCat · 23/04/2017 12:16

Tobias Bear is very cool :)

faithinthesound · 23/04/2017 12:31
  1. We just got a puppy. We named him Bear. It's apparently a very popular name... for dogs.
  2. Bear might be cute for a wee one, but it has a very specific connotation amongst the gay community - a connotation that your son may not appreciate when his peers make the connection. (Or it'll fit him perfectly - who can say what the future holds?)
  3. Theodore Bear - Teddy Bear - in fiction would get the manuscript filed in the round filing bin in the corner (the garbage can). Please do not do it to a child.
Emeraude · 23/04/2017 12:32

Child abuse.

loveliesbleeding1 · 23/04/2017 12:38

For the next 2 weeks introduce your dh to everyone you meet as teddy bear, look at their reaction, then imagine your little boy as an adult man the same age, ridiculous, no?
