Agree bear as a middle name is cute. Theodore Bear just too much. He won't thank you for it when he's older believe me!

plaintomatopasta · 23/04/2017 08:36

If you want to name your son Bear do it. No one thinks we have made a mistake and all agree that Theodore is far too formal. The worry with Theodore is people shorten it to Theo and we didn't want that because we know other Theo's and much prefer bear. He looks like a bear too.

GinIsIn · 23/04/2017 08:39

Plaintomato - nobody is disputing that Bear is cute. But the OP is planning to do both and actually name her child Teddy Bear Smith.....

sheepflower · 23/04/2017 08:41

No.

Abetes · 23/04/2017 08:47

It's stupid. He will be very cross with you in later life and you will definitely regret it.

McSporran · 23/04/2017 08:47

I think we should have a book of names that parents are allowed to choose from to protect their poor children from being given idiotic names.

plaintomatopasta · 23/04/2017 08:49

I know no one is disputing it being a cute name but sometimes we call ours Teddy Bear and it's still not too much (he's only young so I know that's fine right now). Surely if they just call him Teddy Bear (Theodore bear) they are using Theodore and as an adult They can call him Theo or Ted (we use ted too) and no one needs know unless he tells them. She already said that the alternative is Wolf so she's going with an animal and I think Teddy Bear fits better.

I was at the registry office getting my sons birth certificate changed last summer (changing my name on it) and a girl there was naming her twin girls Summer Sunshine and Autumn Rain!

Lepetitmarsellais · 23/04/2017 08:51

Theodore Bear good one Grin

ToesInWater · 23/04/2017 09:03

Or clown, or dolly......

Ceto · 23/04/2017 09:05

What teenage boy wants a cute name?

shinynewusername · 23/04/2017 09:12

Calling a child Wolf is giving him a lifelong label saying "My parents are idiots".

HenryandJude · 23/04/2017 09:14

I really don't care about what you think of Wolf and you can call me an idiot all you like, but I much prefer it to some of the names thrown about on here and my eldest son agrees. He's in Sixth Form and his middle name is Fox. My middle son is only 9, but he also has an animal middle name.

TakeASipOfDancingJuice · 23/04/2017 09:20

I was just going to suggest Fox but you've already used it. I think Bear is fine as a first name, not sure I would use it with Theodore though. Wolf would be better.
I know a toddler Wolfie and no one bats an eyelid at that.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 23/04/2017 09:30

No.

JenniferAnistonsHair · 23/04/2017 10:03

I think having a cool middle name is fab if you aren't going to use a family name. Theo Wolf works for all ages of child I think...& even as an adult, I wouldn't bat an eyelid. Often, we don't know adults middle names, but if anyone asked him, it'd be a talking point...in a good way!!

I think Wolf works better than Bear with Theodore.

Fox is a great middle name. I'd love to know your middle boy's middle name too!!

Empireoftheclouds · 23/04/2017 10:06

If you don't care why did you bother asking Confused

ItsOut · 23/04/2017 10:10

Theodore Bear is a bit silly but I've heard worse. Middle names don't really matter as no one uses them anyway.

My main objection is that it's a name that sounds like your use chosen it because it's wacky and original rather than a name you liked. IYSWIM

Rockaby · 23/04/2017 10:12

I love Wulfric and quite like Wolfgang with nn Wolf?

I don't think there's anything that terrible about Wolf or Bear as a middle name tbh. Or at least there wouldn't be, except that his first name will be Theodore. That is just silly, if I'm honest. Potential nn Teddy along with Bear together, as a name, just makes me cringe (sorry).

Go with Theodore Wulfric Wolf. Nothing wrong with it IMO, in fact, I think it's very nice. Wulfric Theodore sounds lovely too, with Nn Wolf.

zen1 · 23/04/2017 10:16

What about Beowulf as a first name?

nancy75 · 23/04/2017 10:20

Keep Bear as the middle name but change the first name to Grizzly, much more macho.

HenryandJude · 23/04/2017 10:27

Jennifer, he's Jude Raven.

I didn't ask about Wolf? I asked about Bear.

OP posts:
Rockaby · 23/04/2017 10:43

I didn't ask about Wolf? I asked about Bear.

Eh? You brought it up! "If it's not bear, it will be Wolf so..."

The last few posters who have mentioned Wolf have been trying to be supportive I think. There's no need to get snippy with people who are trying to be kind to you.

Just ignore what I said about Wolf. I will just say my personal opinion is that I do not like Theodore Bear.

HenryandJude · 23/04/2017 10:45

I was replying to the person who said if I don't care why ask... The I don't care was WRT Wolf, I wasn't being rude to anyone who said anything after that person.

OP posts:
GinIsIn · 23/04/2017 10:50

You seem to be set on doing it and rude to those who disagree so why post? Confused

Nobody is saying Bear is a bad name, just that it's too much and a bit silly in conjunction with Theodore. Which it is.

It's like instead of using Jude Raven and Whatever-you-went-for Fox, you called them Feathery Raven Smith and Vixen Fox Smith. An animal middle name on its own is cool, a full themed name is daft and try-hard.

HenryandJude · 23/04/2017 10:52

Fen that's a bit harsh, I haven't been rude to anyone. People have been calling me fucking idiot and whatever else, I've not said anything along those lines.
