Yoshi or Taiga?

Sister is Sakura Smile

We love Taiga (it makes us think of the forest) so it goes well with his sister's name. Have always loved Yoshi though.

Which would you pick? Thank you!

Im saying taiga as tie -ga. Is that right?

Badhairday1001 · 12/02/2017 09:53

I love them both.

IntoTheDeep · 12/02/2017 10:04

Are the Mario games really all that popular?? Confused I didn't even know there was a dinosaur associated with Mario. I prefer Yoshi out of the two.

I was guessing Taiga is pronounced as tiger but I'm not sure whether that's right.

RedSauce · 12/02/2017 10:05

Taiga is said how it looks

So, Tah-ee-ga? Or Tay-ga? Or Tiger?

Anyway I prefer Yoshi.

NightWanderer · 12/02/2017 10:08

The much-awaited Nintendo Switch will be released soon. I think Mario is also being used to promote the Tokyo olympics.

NightWanderer · 12/02/2017 10:08

Tie-ga is correct. Smile

StillaChocoholic · 12/02/2017 10:26

123bananas yes he is! 😊

RedSauce · 12/02/2017 10:39

In fairness, I think the actual name Yoshi is pronounced differently to how us Brits pronounce the mario character (we mostly say Yoe - shee rather than Yosh-ee) so that makes it a little more different.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 12/02/2017 11:46

It's got to be Yoshi, great name. 😄

rattieofcarcassone · 12/02/2017 11:50

I'd say Taiga because Yoshi would immediately bring to mind Mario to most people even familiar with the games! I like both but Taiga sounds great. I love Sakura too, when I was a young teen I went through a period of a few years insisting that when I was older I'd have a girl named Sakura Grin

FinnegansCake · 12/02/2017 12:09

Both names are lovely, but I have a slight preference for Yoshi now that RedSauce has clarified that the pronunciation is Yosh-ee Smile

MrsMeeseeks · 12/02/2017 13:13

I love Yoshi!

MrsMeeseeks · 12/02/2017 13:17

You should probably ask Japanese people's opinion. Neither sound right to the anglo saxon ear.

Christ. Where to even start with this?

Wadingthroughsoup · 12/02/2017 13:23

Re. pronunciation: I had assumed it was Yo-shee rather than Yoe-shee. I'd never heard of the Mario character so perhaps that's why.

The problem I have with Taiga is that people will assume it's written 'Tiger'. I know that Tiger is also used as a name; but it has always struck me as a rather pretentious choice. Clearly, 'Taiga' is a different name altogether but to me it would sound exactly the same.

harderandharder2breathe · 12/02/2017 16:33

Sakura is a beautiful name!

And I prefer Taiga to Yoshi

PersisFord · 12/02/2017 16:45

Taiga. Gorgeous. I have no Japanese affiliations, don't play Nintendo, don't watch anime....but I think it just sounds lovely. Very masculine and a good name for a grown up as well as a baby.

Sakura also has a lovely sound - very romantic!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 12/02/2017 17:33

Taiga is just splendid. What's wrong with it sounding like 'tiger'? I don't get it Confused

Wadingthroughsoup · 12/02/2017 17:45

I just don't really like animal names as human names Bendy. Same as I don't really like Wolf, Robin, Phoenix or Wren. Personal preference but it's not my baby, so it doesn't matter what I think!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 12/02/2017 18:19

Wading oh that wasn't aimed at you personally, I'd only read up to page 2 :)

Moosieloo · 12/02/2017 19:56

Thanks all, very helpful comments. I've had way more than I expected!

Love Taiga. Feels fresher and more contemporary than Yoshi for some reason.

ememem84 · 12/02/2017 20:42

I went to uni with a Japanese guy called Yoshi (he pronounced it yowshee, although am not sure if it was because of where he was from in Japan iyswim).

Both are great names.

A friend of mine called her daughter samara. (they couldn't decide between Samantha or Sara). I have a feeling samara is the name of the girl-thing from the ring

Wadingthroughsoup · 12/02/2017 21:19

Ah, fair enough Bendy!

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 13/02/2017 06:30

I prefer Taiga.

Ordinarily · 13/02/2017 12:29

Taiga.
