Names you hate!

First born is due in Dec (gender not known) and dh and I are pondering over names and he's suggested a few now that I absolutely hate - only because I know or knew somebody with that name and they were complete and utter shit heads!

They were every day names, nothing daft like Apple or Tiger Lilly but once associated with a past prize twat!! I go right off it!

Anyone else had this?

I can't stand the names Jessica and Nina. No idea why. I'm sure they're lovely really...

QueenLizIII · 27/08/2016 01:26

Carmel is another one. I have an irrational hatred of that name. Just sounds awful.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 27/08/2016 08:34

Oh I know a very difficult lady called Carmel!

Just thought of another boy name beginning with E which I irrationally hate - Erwin. No idea why! Erwin, Edwin, Elliott, Edmund and Elias. All of these I just don't like for some reason.

I know these posts will probably offend a lot of people... Which I apologise for if mine is one of them!

Layla/Leila/Tyler/Lily/Scarlet/Charlie/Teddy - Finding these names very popular where I am & unfortunately with quite chavvy people Confused

I also have never met a classy/nice Jade. Which has ruined a reasonably pretty name for me.

And I'm not really a fan of people that try to create new/out there spellings for names, which can either ruin them or just cause unnecessary confusion later on.

Kai - it's a Scrabble name

user1467393664 · 29/08/2016 16:00

Really dislike Keith, Simon, Jayden, Gary, Dwayne, Geraldine loads of Irish girls names such as Bronagh (which means sadness), Dymphna, Deirdre, Shelby - just why?, celine, Gemma.

alphabook · 30/08/2016 11:40

Never met a Gemma/Jemma or a Carly I liked.

raviolidreaming · 30/08/2016 12:52

Teddy. The naming of anyone Teddy needs to stop.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/08/2016 13:05

Neveah, anything ending in Mae. Jayden, kaden Kai, jack, Stanley, Arthur, Albert, Rory, Reggie, Anything that sounds made up. I'm a paediatric nurse and we get all sorts.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/08/2016 13:06

Oh and not forgetting names that are cute on babies but not on huge 16 year olds Alfie for example.

LondonGirl83 · 30/08/2016 14:31

People who say they've never met a 'insert common name' that they like sound like assholes. If you meet that many unpleasant people on a regular basis, its likely you are the problem...

Also agree, saying you don't like a name because chav's use it is horrible. You are basically saying, I hate names associated with poor people...

Atenco · 30/08/2016 14:49

"People who say they've never met a 'insert common name' that they like sound like assholes. If you meet that many unpleasant people on a regular basis, its likely you are the problem"

I said that, but I wonder how common are names in the UK? The name I mentioned is a common name here in Mexico, but I have probably only met four, one of whom was nice, and heard of another two unpleasant ones in forty years of living here.

Still I don't really like this thread, it is offending people left, right and centre.

Fayaa · 30/08/2016 18:45

PGTip - What the hell is a scrabble name?

I don't hate many names, but I really hate hyphenated ones. My sister has one because my parents "couldn't decide" Hmm and weren't planning anymore DC (they had 3 more after...I was the next!Shock) and even they don't like it...

PGTip · 30/08/2016 20:49

A scrabble name is when I imagine someone has a bag of scrabble tiles and the randomly pull out tiles and have to make a name from it Grin

GoldenWorld · 31/08/2016 12:14

Whoever mentioned Nikita being a Russian male name, it is also a female Indian name. I've met a few Indian girls called Nikita.
