Names you hate!

Skyler30 · 05/08/2016 15:18

First born is due in Dec (gender not known) and dh and I are pondering over names and he's suggested a few now that I absolutely hate - only because I know or knew somebody with that name and they were complete and utter shit heads!

They were every day names, nothing daft like Apple or Tiger Lilly but once associated with a past prize twat!! I go right off it!

Anyone else had this?

Human names that are given to pets like Barnaby and Troy.

Sorry if this seems really stalky, TroysMammy, but I'm sure you mentioned recently on a 'where did you get your username?' thread that the Troy in your username was a (now sadly departed) dog? My brother is called Troy, which is what made me remember it.

TroysMammy · 05/08/2016 20:56

Derelict he was a black and white cat and died of heart failure at the age of 5. I love the name Troy obviously, he was named after Sergeant Troy in Midsomer Murders and his brother was Barnaby because as a kitten he had blue eyes, just like John Nettles.

Jojo13 · 05/08/2016 20:58

I loved Sonny but my other half vetoed it on the basis he went to school with someone with that name. I won't repeat what he called him..!

I personally loathe double barrelled first names. And normal names spelt in a ridiculous way to be different.

Claraoswald36 · 05/08/2016 21:01

The names of lily allens kids.

Ankleswingers · 05/08/2016 21:05

DerelictMyBalls · 05/08/2016 21:42

Oh, sorry,TroysMammy, I thought your post was in response to the thread title 'Names you hate' and got confused. It's been a long day Confused

Alisvolatpropiis · 05/08/2016 22:23

Victoria, Sarah, Ruth, Emma, Laura.

Joshua, Kyle, Gideon, Ethan, William.

thedragonflyinn · 05/08/2016 22:26

Boys names for girls (especially those ending in I) like:

Bobbi
Stevi
Charli
Frankie

Reindeerlily · 05/08/2016 22:30

I hate the names Paige and Stacey.

sonlypuppyfat · 05/08/2016 22:36

Also names that end ie and y all cutesie, poppy and molly and robbie

TroysMammy · 05/08/2016 23:36

Derelict not names I hate but association. Reading after I posted it sounded all wrong, it didn't make sense to me. What I meant was if I was introduced to a child and I knew an animal with the same name eg Molly, Carly, Benjamin, William, Rosie. I'd always think "I know a dog called xxx".

ClockMakerSue · 06/08/2016 00:35

I think words and especially names have almost a taste or colour to them. I only found out recently that not everyone thinks this. Anyway, William, Louie and Maisie are examples of names that I dislike because of this sensory thing!

I also dislike Stanley and Arthur - they just feel sad.

MyLlamasGoneBananas · 06/08/2016 00:38

Duncan and Malcolm are names I detest. I have no real rational reason but that's how I feel and quite strongly too.

Jaguarana · 06/08/2016 00:47

I detest the ubiquitously popular Noah. It's so weak, like someone is trying to say 'no' but is being all indecisive about it.

Seth is almost as bad, it's lispy & slithery.

trumpybum1 · 06/08/2016 00:59

Ooohhhhhh love thesee threads. I'm a.children's nurse so have heard some great ones on my time (some I have no idea what the parents were thinking). One that springs to mind was La_a (pronounced ladasha) I kid you not!!

i8sum314 · 06/08/2016 01:03

Can you put an underscore in a name?

I love when people go anti-fashion and choose something like Douglas or Jane. Even Keith, maligned as it has been already on this thread, I don't see how Keith is so very different from Finn. They are both celtic and short.
Ignore me, I'll get my coat.

I know what a pp means about Noah. I don't dislike it but it is like a limp handshake. And as another poster said, Mia, there's nothing wrong with it, it's almost a name but not quite. Like Ann. Just half way to being a name.

trumpybum1 · 06/08/2016 01:18

This family did i8sum the best bit was when we questioned how you pronounced the name they were incensed that we didn't know and replied "it's ladasha innit"! Another good one was a baby girl called female! Parents thought that the midwifes had accidently named the baby (name card on postnatal said female "Smith") decided they liked it so kept it!

MotherOfGlob · 06/08/2016 01:18

Samuel - mixed ketchup into his rice pudding at school. Licked snot off his lip.

Jayden/Kayden etc. Too new-fangled.

ClarenceTheAngel · 06/08/2016 07:19

Suddenly reminded of an incident in SCUBU, nurse asked a dad baby's name and he said "Lucifer".😂

CheesyMcTudd · 06/08/2016 07:32

Jayden/Jayden/Hayden etc
Lilly-may/Ellie-may
Made up spellings!!
Some really old names, Ethel, Phyllis etc,

Chickydoo · 06/08/2016 07:37

Katie awful girl from school
Georgia, Paris or any other place name for a first name
Lottie (spotty)
Bruce, Brian,Barnaby, Belle, Beth ( B names)
God there are loads more......I could go on, but I don't have time.

Porcupinetree · 06/08/2016 08:23

Ethan - nearly every under 6 yo around here is called Ethan. Yuck.

Olivia - Olive from on the buses (horrible show) or oil. Yuck.

Claire - I've never met a Claire who hasn't been a nasty shit.

Alfie - I've never met at Alfie who hasn't been a nasty shit.

Sean, Shaun, Shawn & Sarah same as Alfie and Claire.

As Raines said - Grampa Chic - vomit.

ThoraGruntwhistle · 06/08/2016 08:29

I really liked Liam but DH vetoed it because apparently it's a drug dealer's name. I assume he once knew somebody dodgy by that name, rather than believing all people called Liam sell drugs.

sugarplumfairy28 · 06/08/2016 09:24

I'm very very particular about names, I don't names I can link to anyone I dislike. I was bullied a lot at school and so there is a huge range there I have very strong feelings against, i.e Clare, Holly, Nikki, Marie, Craig, Philip, Abigail, Stacey, Eddie although they are all imo very 80s names.

I don't like stupid spellings either like Jayeme.

neonrainbow · 06/08/2016 09:31

Emma, charlotte, matthew, jack. Unoriginal, overused and boring.

Also cutesy names like maisie and tilly and alfie.
