What names do YOU think are popular?

So, our new arrival is weeks away and I am becoming obsessed with the popularity of the names on our short list... Looking at the latest ONS statistics I'm struck by how it doesn't particularly reflect the names I hear a lot, for example I know no Amelias or Jacks but multiple Irises and Laurences. I imagine it's partially down to geography (I'm in London) but I'd be really interested to know what names you come across a lot among babies/ small children.

I came across my first Amelia this morning. I know of one Jack under 10, the rest are all older.

Around here (and I'm talking under 5's)I know several of:

William
Charlie
Freddie
Isaac
Noah
Jacob
Oliver

Poppy
Florence
Isabel (and variants)

Boys names seem to be more repeated than girls if that makes sense. I know very few boys who aren't on that list above.

VeryPunny · 28/08/2015 14:38

Village Playgroup is almost entirely populated by Harrys and Isabel, and variations thereof. Nursery a bit different as there are an awful lot of non-UK parents, so names are varied. Can't move at local NT places or coffee shops without hitting an Alfie or an Archie.

NotTodaySatan · 28/08/2015 14:40

Isla

Noah

Reuben.

Everywhere. Fucking everywhere.

SmugairleRoin · 28/08/2015 14:44

Hannah and Oscar. It seems like there are zillions in Dublin.

ExBallerina · 28/08/2015 14:44

I know easily 5 Jaspers under 5.

Olivia and Lily aplenty

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 28/08/2015 14:45

Chloe, Alice, Phoebe, Poppy, Lola.

Noah, Oliver, Isaac, Leo

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 28/08/2015 14:46

Oh yes, and Oscar and Lily.

That's running through all the kids I know who are known as Oscar B, etc because of duplicates in a class or nursery

Sophronia · 28/08/2015 14:50

Lily
Evie
Isla
Scarlett (I seem to know loads of these)
Lola
Poppy
Isabelle
Amelia

Oliver
Oscar
Finn (also know quite a few of these and I don't think it's that high ranking on the popularity charts)
Charlie
Archie
Lucas

RiverTam · 28/08/2015 14:53

Harry
Noah

Molly
Millie

But we're in London where half the children fint have British parents do there's a huge variety.

I have yet to ever come across an Olivia.

Paddingtonthebear · 28/08/2015 14:53

Badders123 · 28/08/2015 15:13

Oliver
Harry
Kayden
Amelia
Isabelle
Savannah

Scoobydoo8 · 28/08/2015 15:19

It's obvious - you just choose something that was popular in your mother's generation - that'll be v unusual and no one will like it but will be ahead of it's time by 20 years Smile

lanbro · 28/08/2015 15:21

Olivia
Island
Lily/Lila/Laila

Noah
Fin
Harry

For me, popular = boring and lack of imagination!

lanbro · 28/08/2015 15:22

And Oscar!

Janeymoo50 · 28/08/2015 15:29

All under 7 - that I know

Jayden
Ruby
Isaac
Jonah
Florence
Jake
Ethan
Arlo
Peighton

Names around that I don't personally know

Sophie
Jack
Ava
Eve
Jacob

I'm in Kent.

Hypotenuse · 28/08/2015 15:41

Charlie Evie Leo Isla Lola Lily Teddy Joshua Jacob Phoebe

I'd go for something popular 20 years ago, like Katie or Vicki or Jack, if you want a classic that there won't be twenty of in his/her class!

AliAliAlium · 28/08/2015 15:59

Isla. Many, many Islas around here. Daisy, Ellie, Charlotte (and shortenings) are also very popular.

There is no obviously very popular boys name, not the way Isla seems to dominate. I know a few Charlies, Archies, Finlays but maybe 3/4 of each as opposed to about 20 Islas aged 6 and under (I am not exaggerating!).

AliAliAlium · 28/08/2015 16:00

Oh, and baby Isabellas. Lots of those too.

Notso · 28/08/2015 16:18

Isaac
Dylan
Eben
Harry
Cole
Rhys
Finley
Chase
Alfie
Oliver
Osian
George
Luke/Luca/Lucas
Toby

Isla
Isobel
Freya
Ffion
Niamh
Lily
Poppy
Seren
Ruby
Lola
Phoebe
Sophie
Anything -May/Mae/Mai or -Rose

melinski · 28/08/2015 16:33

I know 5 Anya's but only 1 Amelia

Lunastarfish · 28/08/2015 16:43

Archie, Oliver, Dylan and Jacob are the most common boys.

Girls I hear the most is Sophia

Lunastarfish · 28/08/2015 16:44

That said my Dd has a name that is around 800 on ons and I met another last week (albeit much older)
