Word Names, non mainstream

I think we have decided on our forthcoming baby's name, but in case I have overlooked something, I am keen to hear any unusual but usable word name names. Not the mainstream ones like Grace, Lily, Ruby, Jasper, Matt and Johnny, but the less pedestrian - e.g. Sailor, Cadence, Calypso, Journey, Phoenix etc.

Boys and Girls please!

Tried to go through the alphabet but run out of steam. It's a fun game though! Might be a bit too heavy on the vegetable inspiration but brassica and endive are great words.

I like Poem, tis pretty

Interrobang · 01/03/2015 22:11

I like Bijou(x) - I like the x - nice letter. But what if my child isn't small!

Axel is great (erstwhile colleague named his son this - I really do know lots of unusually-named kids! And a few adults too.) I also know a Spike. (child)

GP's dog was called Bracken. So that's out!

Our lead girl's name has been mentioned (I don't want to say though), but DS's name has not come up yet. I think Endeavour is in the lead for a boy.

Well Bijou/bijoux (plural with x) actually means more along the lines of jewels and exquisitely made trinkets, admittedly has been overtaken to mean small, stupid Bijou apartment estate agent speak.
My cat (who is a massive British blue cross) is called Bijou, but only as I have no daughters, was absolutely on of my human girl names!

StoneFoxMama · 02/03/2015 06:54

I really want to know your girls name and ds' name! You're among your tribe here Grin
Love Endeavour, never met one, great nicknames too.

BotBotticelli · 02/03/2015 09:10

Liberty (NN Libby) is great.

I also love Holliday for a girl.

RosieRosie1 · 02/03/2015 09:48

SOme gorgeous names here x

StoneFoxMama · 02/03/2015 10:27

Has anyone mentioned Sonnet, love that.

StoneFoxMama · 02/03/2015 10:31

Or Poesie (poetry in French) over invested now!

BikeRunSki · 02/03/2015 11:09

Sorrell

Interrobang · 02/03/2015 11:31

SFM, I did double-check the meaning, and I love exquisite little trinket, but it's still too 'small'-meaning. It's great for a cat, they are small even if they are big! :)

I know - I hate it when people don't tell us their names!!! Grin

Love Sonnet, but feel it's girly, and the nn Sonny is too male.

Holliday was on my list.

Also love Holiday/Holliday.

My favourite, absolute favourite is Nativity, but everyone else hates it and laughs.

Interrobang · 02/03/2015 11:56

Nativity is too religious - we are atheists! Grin
It's got a nice sound otherwise though!

Some are very out there but what the heck!

MamaMotherMummy · 02/03/2015 12:17

Meadow

Pipbin · 02/03/2015 12:30

Honeysuckle

What colouring is she likely to have? Ebony or Mahogany won't suit a very pale girl.

BikeRunSki · 02/03/2015 12:37

Savannah

spiderlight · 02/03/2015 12:45

Our friends have children whose middle names are Danger and Adventure Grin

Interrobang · 02/03/2015 12:47

Mama, that sure is some out-there list, a little too out there for even me! I do like Lyric.

Pipbin, I do like Honeysuckle. Child could look like honeysuckle - DS does have honeysuckle colouring (blond hair, blush cheeks) - but he could go dark-haired when older. I had a dream this child had dark dark hair. DH and I are Caucasian to look at but I do have Asian (being deliberately vague, soas to not out self) heritage that could sneak in.

Spider, I did suggest Danger for DS's middle name, but DH was having none of it. Boo. I love Adventure!

I know a Tigerlily, she gets Tiggy and Tiger. I always wanted to be called that when I was little, that or Soleil which I find a bit weird now even for me.

StoneFoxMama · 02/03/2015 12:55

Watched a program which starred a little boy named Swan. I like it for a girl.
