Word Names, non mainstream

I think we have decided on our forthcoming baby's name, but in case I have overlooked something, I am keen to hear any unusual but usable word name names. Not the mainstream ones like Grace, Lily, Ruby, Jasper, Matt and Johnny, but the less pedestrian - e.g. Sailor, Cadence, Calypso, Journey, Phoenix etc.

Boys and Girls please!

Wow, soph, fabulous list. I already have some of those on my list. Not sure they are all truly wearable though.

I also know kids called Chase and Indigo - am not that unusual wanting an unusual name word for my child, it seems!

Rebel Wilson has siblings called Ryot, Annachi and Liberty....not sure about the spellings....

marshmallowpies · 01/03/2015 20:10

No Meredith isn't but suggested Merrily as an alternative. I love both Smile

marshmallowpies · 01/03/2015 20:12

I wouldn't go for Unity I'm afraid - Unity Mitford is much too much of a troubled & unhappy person for that name to have a very happy history...otherwise it would be very cool.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 01/03/2015 20:16

Pepper

Skeppers · 01/03/2015 20:16

Blythe. But we've got our eye on that one!

choccyp1g · 01/03/2015 20:17

Surely Endeavour's nickname would be Morse. Which is a word too. Morse's nn could be Cody.

Interrobang · 01/03/2015 20:18

Outraged, I love those names! :) What cool parents!

Robert Rodriguez and Elizabeth Avellan have coolly named kids: Rocket, Racer, Rebel and Rogue, and, er, Rhiannon (not sure why she missed out!).

Pharrell also has a Rocket. I like it! And Rocky is a great nn.

marshmallows, sorry, so you did. I like Merrily a lot!

Pepper - too piggy.

Lol, choc, my brain was working towards that too! Morse and Cody are great NNs!

I know, right - poor Rhiannon indeed!

I know a Story - very unusual - I wonder if it is the same one (my friend's one is three.)

The blogger Girls Gone Child has a Fable - I love that. And a Reverie, and a Boheme. My kind of vibe. I did want Bohemia, but DH wasn't all for it.

LOVE Wolf (DH knows an adult one, German, officially Wolfgang).
We also know an adult Oak! And a young Oakley.

These names are great!

Oh Velvet is very cool - Velvet Brown from National Velvet. Loved that book growing up.

As well as Summer and Autumn, I know a Winter. I think (personally) you should only use them for a child born in that season. Is that just me? Would it be weird to be a Summer born in February?

No 47 Bus Shelter

thatstoast · 01/03/2015 21:18

I've got DH involved and he suggested Providence.

Is No 47 Bus Shelter for a girl or a boy?

countessmarkyabitch · 01/03/2015 21:22

Oh either, I reckon, it's ambisexual!
